Our choice for a monitor for competitive gaming
According to our monitor expert
Head into battle with the LG UltraGear 27GS85Q-B 27-inch QHD gaming monitor. Thanks to the 180Hz refresh rate, you can experience smooth images. The 1ms response time ensures you're not bothered by screen tearing. That way, you can handle any online challenge. Do you use an AMD video card? The video card synchronizes with your monitor. This prevents screen tearing, even if you game in HDR. The colors of your favorite games look bright thanks to the DisplayHDR 400 support. You can tilt and adjust the height of the monitor for a good ergonomic sitting posture. This prevents neck or back pain. Want to game on a console? Connect your PlayStation or Xbox Series X|S via one of the 2 HDMI ports. With the blue light filter, you don't get strained or irritated eyes.
Note: the maximum refresh rate via HDMI is 144Hz. For 180Hz gaming, you need to connect the monitor via DisplayPort.

My first purchase was very disappointing, the screen had an orange "cloud" in the bottom right corner, the menu lever also felt a bit rickety. I sent that screen back and after some further research it turns out that this monitor can be a bit hit or miss in terms of quality. Finally decided to give it another try and ordered a new set. Both screens are excellent this time. Image is great, no weird effects. The menu stick is also a lot stiffer / firmer. Obviously had a Monday morning model the first time. 27” 1440 is a good upgrade over my previous 24” 1080p. The refresh rate is great (especially with GSync). Image is also a bit sharper and the colors are a huge upgrade (first had TN) in short, very satisfied with it! Another tip for new owners: if you notice that the brightness seems to fluctuate, the monitor has energy saving turned on by default. Turn it off and it won't bother you anymore.

Ordered for the first time and as indicated here, there was also an orange glow in my screen. Returned and got a new one and the same problem again... Now I read somewhere that 30% of the screens have this problem. Now Coolblue can't do anything about it, but I think that Coolblue should point out to LG that this is not really customer-friendly... LG should check products better before they are scrapped.

Ordered several monitors lately to find the perfect one. Unfortunately none of them are perfect, but at least this one scores well. - Setup is easy, you don't even need a screwdriver - Calibration is not necessarily necessary, on sRGB the colors are almost perfect (white is a bit cold). You can't change anything further, but you really don't need to. - If you do want to play with the settings, there are plenty of options. - 4k and high refresh is of course very nice. Downsides are the really intense lightbleed and the issues with 4k on high refresh via DisplayPort. The lightbleed is intense in the bottom corners and also quite distracting in dark scenes. Luckily you don't see it at all in other scenes. This goes a bit further than normal IPS glow/lightbleed and is a known problem with the LG Ultragears. The issues with 4k at 144hz on DisplayPort are not unique to this monitor. This is an issue in Windows and you have it on every 4k high refresh monitor. The problem is that the screen occasionally goes black for a second or two. Not very useful in game of course. To be solved by switching to an HDMI 2.1 connection and using the monitor at 120 Hz. So you won't have this issue with a PS5.
