Your TV receiver: sneakily uses a lot of energy
Watch TV with a lower energy bill
You don't watch TV the entire day, but your TV receiver is turned on the entire day. And that consumes energy. Do you know everything on your TV receiver?
- What's a media box
- The energy consumption of your media box
- Saving energy with your media box
What's a TV receiver
The TV receiver has many different names. Some call it your media box or a digital TV receiver. We all mean the same thing: the device from your provider that you use to watch digital TV. This consumes some energy, often without you realizing it. Even when you're not watching.
The energy consumption of your media box
The consumption of your media box can differ and is also different per provider. In stand-by, the consumption is between 4 and 215kWh per year. That's a difference of about € 44 on a yearly basis. Check the website of your provider for the exact power consumption of your media box.
Save energy with your media box
Luckily, you can easily reduce the consumption. Many digital TV receivers have an Eco mode in the settings. When you set this, starting the receiver takes a little longer. Your receiver has up to 30 times less standby power. And you can see the difference in your wallet.
