When do you upgrade the fuse box for your charging station?
What does upgrading mean?
When you give your fuse box an upgrade, it means that you increase the size of the gas or electricity connection. As a result, your fuse box will have more power. For example, you can go from a 1-phase to a 3-phase connector. Or, you can increase a phase connector, so it has more ampere. Your fuse box will be able to handle more large appliances at the same time, like a charging station, air conditioner, or induction cooktop.
Why upgrade?
Do you choose a charging station? There are 2 reasons why it's useful to upgrade your fuse box.
- You need more power to charge your car, especially if you want to use your TV or washing machine at the same time. By giving your fuse box an upgrade, you prevent the fuses from blowing. Thanks to this, you can do your laundry while you charge your car.
- You can charge the car faster with more power. Let's say your car can charge with a 3-phase connector but your fuse box has a 1-phase connector. Your car will charge slowly, because you don't have the power. With a 3-phase connector, this will go a lot faster.
Don't know how many phases your fuse box has or whether it's useful to upgrade your fuse box? Feel free to contact us. Our advisors are happy to help you. They'll calculate the capacity you need for your electric car and what your current situation is like.
Connector and charging capacity
The more charging capacity you have, the faster an electric car charges. This charging capacity depends on the connector and current of your fuse box. If you car can charge a maximum of 3.7kW, a 1-phase connector with 16 ampere is enough. Do you want to charge with 11kW? You need a 3-phase connector with 25 ampere.
Maximum charging capacity
Fuse box connector | Maximum charging capacity fuse box |
---|---|
1x 16A | 3.7kW |
1x 25A | 5.8kW |
1x 35A | 6.9kW |
3x 16A | 11kW |
3x 25A | 17.2kW |
3x 35A | 24.2kW |
