Second Chance Kobo Elipsa 2E with Kobo Stylus 2

The Kobo Elipsa 2E is a large tablet where I can easily take notes while reading e-books or PDF files. The large size makes it less comfortable to hold with one hand.

Big format
Thanks to the large screen, I can comfortably read books or files and I have plenty of room for notes. On the 10-inch screen, I see more text on a page and I don't have to scroll as often. This also allows me to easily set a larger font. The device is quite fast and hardly falters. Its size makes it less easy to put in my bag. Are you planning to use the e-reader on the road a lot? Then I recommend an e-reader in a smaller format.

Take notes with stylus
I like the included stylus with the Elipsa 2E. I make notes in e-books or pdf files easily and quickly. For example, I write a note on the sides, highlight important sentences or circle words. When I make a mistake, I erase it with the back of the stylus. I can find all the notes I made together in one overview. This makes it easy to read them back. I also use the Elipsa 2E as a notepad and for to-do lists. The e-reader recognizes my handwriting and converts the handwritten text into typed text properly.

Quiet screen
The Kobo Elipsa 2E has Comfort Light PRO. As a result, the e-reader automatically adjusts the brightness and color temperature of the screen. I often read at night before I go to bed. It is therefore extra pleasant when the screen is less bright and filters the blue light. I also don't have to turn on a lamp, because the screen lighting of the e-reader is sufficient. While reading, I also have the option to set a dark mode. This is easy on my eyes and so I fall asleep without any problems after reading.

Useful functions
By connecting the e-reader to WiFi, I can download all my favorite books from the Kobo library. When I don't feel like reading, I listen to audiobooks. I do this with my headphones when I connect them to the Elipsa 2E via Bluetooth. The e-reader has no input to use wired earplugs. I also find it useful that I import my files via Dropbox on the e-reader. That way I have all my files at hand.

I work as a researcher and my job requires me to frequently take notes in meetings, read articles, and read and annotate student reports. The screen in landscape mode is large enough to read (pdf) articles. Unfortunately, taking minutes on the PDF is still in its infancy; only one type of pen can be chosen and it is very thick. So it is difficult to take detailed notes. Also, marking text is not done with text recognition, but freehand (as if you were working with a highlighter on a print). These marks are therefore shown on the computer in a PDF program, but the marks cannot be extracted. The ereader is still very disappointing here, and I hope that this will get even better with software updates.
Taking notes during meetings is fantastic, in the extended notebook mode you can write to your heart's content, and when exporting to the dropbox (as .txt, .html or .doc) the handwritten text is converted into typed text. And this is going very well! I can then very easily copy my notes per meeting to my digital note program (I use Obsidian, but OneNote or Evernote is also possible). This workflow is great! In combination with the fact that the ereader is very light and has a backlight (other big names lack this) makes me very happy with it. The writing is also better than I expected, the write latency is low enough. The interaction of the pen tip or the screen is not your-of-it, it's nowhere near paper. I don't think it's suitable for drawing either. Further disadvantages are the frequent refresh of the screen while writing.
All in all, I'm probably going to hang in the willows with tablet with stylus in favor of this one for reading pdf and taking notes.

I hesitated between a Boox Air2 and this Elipsa 2E.
Because of my previous experiences with reliability, I still chose Kobo. I wanted to be able to take notes in textbooks. Almost returned the first day because browsing through technical textbooks was unbearably slow. However, the slowness became less with more use and is now acceptable. Handwriting recognition is fast and virtually error-free despite my almost illegible handwriting and writing feels like on paper. After a week of use, I am still satisfied and the device does what I was looking for. I can not live without. Sleep cover is recommended, but pricey. Just had to sit there.
