Our expert review

The best MacBook for on the go

  • Fits easily on small surfaces
  • Fast in image editing
  • I connect up to 2 external screens for a good overview
  • Due to the low number of ports, I need a docking station more quickly

I take the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air M3 (2024) with me everywhere. It is super light and compact. Even on the cramped folding tables on the train, I continue working on my projects. It is fast and energy efficient for image editing. Of course I also watch my favorite films and series on my MacBook. The razor-sharp Liquid Retina screen and the 4 Dolby Atmos speakers complete my movie experience. In short, a nice laptop for daily use. I do think it is a shame that the anti-slip rubbers on the bottom do not work on every surface and I see fingerprints on the dark housing. From surfing the internet to video editing: the MacBook Air can do it all I use this MacBook Air daily for all my tasks. For example, I can score my new outfit online with Klarna, I am always up to date with the latest news through the widgets on my desktop and I can perform graphical edits smoothly. For example, I like to make a recap video after my holiday. I easily edit these in iMovie. I edit my photo files in Adobe Photoshop, which I then immediately share on Instagram. In the evening I play a game with my friends via Discord. The MacBook Air is also suitable for this: thanks to the Ray Tracing technology, I play light games from the App Store and the images look realistic. I do notice that this goes smoother with a model with 10 graphics cores. Easier multitasking with extra screens The 13-inch Liquid Retina screen is compact, which makes it harder for me to work on large spreadsheets. If I want to multitask more easily, I simply open my tabs in Split View. This works fine for me. If a file really doesn't fit on my screen, I can easily connect 2 external screens. My MacBook has to be closed for this, which I think is a shame. I prefer to have the beautiful Liquid Retina screen of my Air there. This is possible, but then I connect a maximum of 1 screen. Few ports, but many connections The MacBook Air casing is very thin, which doesn't leave much room for ports. On the sides I only see a MagSafe charging port, 2 USB-C ports and a mini jack connection. Personally, I don't mind this so much. Nowadays I naturally connect many accessories via Bluetooth. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.4, the quality of my wireless headphones is better and I experience less delay when I connect devices such as my keyboard and mouse to my MacBook.
