According to our e-reader expert
Take the Kobo Aura ONE everywhere so you can read all of your favorite eBooks without having a heavy and full bag. Thanks to the storage capacity of 8GB, you can store about 6000 books. This means you don't have to worry about not having any reading material during a holiday or when you're commuting to work. Did you already read all of your eBooks? Just download some new ones via WiFi. If you want to keep your old eBooks, transfer them to a laptop or desktop using a micro USB cable. If you want to read something in bed at night, your eyes won't bother you, because the screen emits little blue light. You can relax and read in the bath, thanks to the waterproof casing.

When I read most of the reviews, it seems that 2 types of Kobo One eReaders are sold. A good one that most buyers (and testers) apparently get, and a less good version, of which I've had 5 now. These 5 all had a less even picture with the orange night lighting. There's even a blue cast in both bottom corners. How about a nice smooth screen? Only on forums do I come across buyers with the same image complaints. You can sometimes have these problems with a single copy, but not with 5 versions purchased in succession. I contacted Kobo, but they had the only solution; return and exchange. (I did 5 times without ever getting a better version) That does not help! I'll keep the last one, because I've put enough time into it already. But I don't understand the enthusiasm of the other reviewers at all. Without this image problem, and a better battery, the Kobo One could become a fantastic ereader, but then there is still a lot to do. are being adjusted. And maybe a little more for the price! I have an example jpg photo, but it is not accepted by this site (??)

Battery drains within a few days, meanwhile a known problem (without wifi, with wifi max 1.5-2 days). Google it too. Display with lighting on very spotty and not evenly lit. Without lighting, by the way, tight The predecessors were much better, so I recommend them. This was really an overpriced bad buy. (This is now my fourth One so it's not exemplary)

I had been looking for a replacement for my 3.5 year old Kobo Glo for a while now. The old Aura line just wasn't it for me, but the Aura One was promising, so I waited for that. I don't regret that. In all areas, the Aura One is a big step forward compared to the Glo: a larger display, smoother lighting, thinner housing, adjustable lighting color tone, and slightly faster. Now that I've been using it for a few days, my enthusiasm has only grown. The price may be on the high side, but too expensive...? No, not that. This is exactly what I was looking for in an e-reader and considering the quality it is really worth the price. Two caveats: the software in general could be better. For example, you can create collections (a kind of directories), but you cannot create collections within collections (say subdirectories). The structure that you can build is therefore only 1 level deep. Furthermore, it has been a thorn in my side for years that Kobo with the standard software wastes a lot of screen space on relatively useless information and margin. Despite complaints on forums, they have never wanted to change this. Why is a mystery to me. Fortunately, there is a solution: an undocumented option that you can enable so that you can disable the header/footer and actually read full screen. Google "Kobo FullScreenReading" for this. It is also relatively easy for a layman to do. Furthermore, PDF support is still as flawed and illogical as it was a few years ago. I'm a software developer myself and my hands are itching. This has been put together by developers who understand little about ease of use. The biggest problem is that with PDF you are stuck with the layout of the document. So when things are small, you want to be able to zoom and drag. That is possible in principle, but the way is not very convenient and elegant. Even worse, as soon as you turn the page, your settings will expire. In practice, therefore, unusable, if you have a document with a lot of white space due to margins. These are things that are easy to improve, but Kobo has been failing this for years. I have to say that the need to zoom has become a lot less with the Aura One, because of the relatively large display with the resolution of a laser printer (300 dpi). All in all a very good e-reader, but it has the potential to get even better. Not because of the device itself, but because of the software that runs on it.
