This will change on your energy bill in 2024
Price cap ends
The price cap was an important measure in 2023 to lower everyone's energy bill. This measure ended on 1 January 2024.
The end of the price cap doesn't mean your energy bill will increase out of nowhere. Do you have a contract with rates that are still under the price cap, for example? The end of the price cap doesn't influence your energy bill right away.
Is your contract ending soon? Take out a 1-year Secure contract so you're ensured prices below the price cap. Or choose Dynamic Hourly Rates. This way, you can easily maintain control over your costs and plan your consumption when the prices are good.
Higher network operating costs
You pay network operating costs for the use and maintenance of the power grid. Because we're transitioning to energy from renewable energy sources, network operators are pouring a lot of money into improving the power grid. That's why you pay more fixed network operating costs this year. The ACM estimates you pay € 8 more monthly.
Energy tax is going up
The Dutch Cabinet is increasing the energy tax on gas from € 0.59 to € 0.71 per cubic meter. On the other hand, the Cabinet is lowering the energy tax on electricity. This tax is going from € 0.15 to € 0.13 per kWh. This way, the government wants to encourage households to choose electric heating options like heat pumps more often.
Positive energy
Slight increase of energy tax reduction
With the reduction of energy taxes, you get a fixed discount on the taxes. In 2024, this reduction increases with 6%. This amounts to € 34.53, so the amount goes from € 596.86 to € 631.39 including VAT.
The Tijdelijk Noodfonds Energie is coming back
Due to all the increases in 2024, the Tijdelijk Noodfonds Energie has been opened again. This fund helps those with lower incomes. They compare the costs of the energy bill to the income. Find out whether you're eligible for support via the Tijdelijk Noodfonds Energie website. You can request support up until 31 March 2024.
