How do you read your meter readings?
Determine your meter
We ask you to provide us with your meter readings when:
- we can't read your smart meter;
- we're making your annual bill or final statement;
- you're a new customer;
- your rates change;
- you're moving.
We'll send you an email with a request to provide us with your meter readings. How you can read the meter readings depends on which meter you have. Get a phone or pen and paper and go to your fuse box. Determine which meter you have and watch the video to learn how to read it correctly.
Analogue meter
Your analogue meter has 1 or 2 counters. You can see exactly how many kilowatt-hours of energy you've consumed on the counters. You'll also see a comma. When you pass on your meter readings, you should only provide the numbers in front of the comma. Don't see a comma or red area? Provide us with all numbers.
Do you have 2 counters? One of the counters doesn't move and the other one does. We'll tell you what your previous meter reading was to make it easier to recognize which one you need for passing on your meter readings. Do write down the number of both counters. You don't have to tell us the numbers behind the comma.
Digital meter
A digital meter is slightly different from a smart meter. A digital meter has 4 counters:
- Counter I - T1 - 1.8.1 - Off-peak rate
- Counter II - T2 - 1.8.2 - Regular rate
- Counter III - T3 - 2.8.1 - Off-peak feed-in solar panels
- Counter IIII - T4 - 2.8.2 - Regular feed-in solar panels
Most digital meters show the readings on the screen one by one, and you can click through them with a button. Other digital meters have all meter readings on 1 display.
If you don't have solar panels, you only pass on counters 1 and 2. If you do have solar panels, pass on counters 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Smart meter
If you have a smart meter, we can mostly read your meter automatically. Did you still receive a request for your meter readings? That means we either don't have permission to read it automatically, or there was a technical issue. You can read the meter readings of a smart meter the same way as a digital meter. If you can't, check the manual of your smart meter or contact your network operator.
You can often recognize a smart meter by its barcode.
Gas meter
Because water and gas meters are often close together and they both measure in cubic meters, we can understand that's confusing. We're happy to help. A gas meter is rectangular, often made of metal, and larger than the water meter. A gas meter also always has the connectors on top, while they're on the side of a water meter.
We also only need the numbers before the comma for the gas meter.
I don't see which meter I have
Still can't find out which meter you have? Contact your network operator. If you don't know who's your network operator, check your postal code and house number on eancodeboek.nl.
