A hammer drill, also known as an SDS drill because of the use of this drilling technology, is suitable for drilling in hard stone and hard concrete. A hammer drill that has a chisel function as well is also called a combi hammer. Unlike an impact drill, a hammer drill has an electro-pneumatic hammer mechanism. Inside the machine, air movement between a crankshaft and piston generate shock waves in the drill or chisel. The shock waves in the chisel or drill of the pneumatic hammer drill do the rough work without causing damage to the machine.
