5 tips for cheap charging of your electric car
5 tips for cheaper charging
With these 5 tips, you'll pay less for a full battery.
- Tip 1. Charge your car at home
- Tip 2. Choose a dynamic energy contract
- Tip 3. Use energy from solar panels
- Tip 4. Set up a charging schedule
- Tip 5. Avoid fast chargers
Tip 1: charge your car at home
With your own charging station, you can save a lot on your charging costs. Charging at home is much cheaper than at public charging stations. On average, you pay € 0.30 per kilowatt-hour at home and around € 0.65 at public charging stations. With your own charging station, you also always have an available charging spot. Do you drive electric for your job often? Ask your employer about charging at work. You often won't have to pay anything extra for this.
Tip 2: choose a dynamic energy contract
With a dynamic energy contract, you pay the current energy rate that changes every hour. When the sun's shining a lot or it's very windy, the demand for energy is lower and energy becomes cheaper. Charge your car at these times, so you pay less for a full battery. We offer dynamic energy contracts at Coolblue Energy.
Tip 3: use energy from solar panels
Do you have solar panels on your roof? Charge your car when the sun's shining. That way, you can use the energy you've generated. That's better for your wallet and you'll drive using green energy. Make sure you have enough solar panels for your consumption. Our Coolblue Energy advisors are happy to help.
Tip 4: set up a charging schedule
You can set up a charging schedule with some smart charging stations, like the BlueBuilt charging station. You do this via an app. Set these charging times during the day or weekend, so your charging station automatically charges with cheaper energy rates.
Tip 5: avoid fast chargers
You'll often find fast chargers along the highway. With these, you charge your car within half an hour and quickly continue driving again. This energy costs more, namely € 0.85 per kilowatt-hour. That's € 0.55 more expensive than charging at home. Only use a fast charger when you don't have a choice. Are you on a long journey, like during a vacation? Plan where you want to stop for a charging session in advance, so you don't have to depend on these expensive charging stations.
