Can you charge your car with solar panels?
Affordable charging with solar panels
You need energy to charge your electric car. When you use energy from the power grid, you pay the regular energy tariff. This is different with solar panels. Once you generate power, the fuse box distributes this power over the appliances that are turned on. If you charge your car on a sunny day, your fuse box uses solar power for this. This is more affordable and better for the environment. Does your charging station need more power? The charging station will get the remaining amount from the power grid.

Set up a charging schedule
Do you have a Coolblue Energy charging station? You can easily set up a charging schedule via the Coolblue App. For example, choose for charging times during the day when the sun is shining to automatically charge your car with solar power. That way, you can drive more efficiently and pay less for a full battery. Do you have a dynamic energy contract? You can save up to € 230 every year when you charge with low energy prices.
Prepared for bidirectional charging
Charging stations are becoming increasingly smarter, so you can charge for affordable energy prices or your own solar power. There's bidirectional charging, with which you use the car as kind of a home battery. You can then charge your car during the day and use this energy at night, for example. This way, you use less energy from the power grid and save on energy costs. This function isn't statutory in the Netherlands right now. The BlueBuilt charging stations from Coolblue Energy are prepared for this.
