Doesn't your Garmin smartwatch connect to your smartphone? Sometimes, the Bluetooth connection drops and your smartphone doesn't work well. Your data isn't right and you don't receive notifications. We'll give you 5 tips to solve this problem in this article.

Garmin doesn't connect to phone

It's normal that your watch and smartphone aren't connected form time to time. They often reconnect by themselves. But sometimes you don't have a connection for a longer time, or you can't make a connection. Go through the tips from top to bottom.

  • Tip 1: check if you're connected
  • Tip 2: check the range
  • Tip 3: restart your smartwatch and smartphone
  • Tip 4: add your watch to your Garmin Connect again
  • Tip 5: check for updates

Tip 1: check if you're connected

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone.
  2. In to top right in the app, you'll see your Garmin smartwatch.
  3. Is there a green dot next to it? Your watch is connected to your smartphone.
  4. Is there a red dot next to it? Your watch isn't connected. You'll get one of these notifications:
  • 'Bluetooth disables on phone'. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  • 'Garmin Connect app has problems or is offline for maintenance'. You have to wait for Garmin Connect to go online.

Tip 2: check the range

Don't you see a green or red dot? Your Garmin smartwatch is paired to your smartphone, but not connected.

  1. Make sure your smartwatch and smartphone are next to each other. Sometimes, you'll lose connection because your smartwatch isn't close enough to your smartphone.
  2. Open the Bluetooth settings on your smartphone.
  3. Check if your Garmin smartwatch is in the list of paired devices.
  4. Did you find your smartwatch? Click on it and check if your smartwatch connects to your smartphone.

Tip 3: restart your smartwatch and smartphone

Is your Garmin watch in reach of your smartphone? The problem lies somewhere else. Follow the steps below:

  1. Restart your smartphone and Garmin smartwatch.
  2. Turn the devices on again and wait for them to start.
  3. Open the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone.
  4. Give your watch 30 seconds to connect.

Tip 4: add your watch to Garmin Connect again

Doesn't your device make a connection after restarting? Follow the steps below. Via these steps, you can add your watch to the Garmin Connect app again.

  1. Open the app on your smartphone and tap more.
  2. Scroll down and tap Garmin devices.
  3. Select your watch.
  4. Click the 3 dots and remove the device.
  5. Go back 1 step and tap add device.
  6. Select your Garmin watch.
  7. Follow the instruction in the app to set up your device.

Tip 5: check for updates

Still can't connect? Try 1 of the tips below.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app in the app store of your smartphone. You can see if you have the latest version this way. If that's not the case, download it.
  2. Check if your Garmin watch uses the latest software. Connect your watch to your computer or laptop. Download 'Garmin Express' on your computer. Garmin Express installs the most recently available updates to your smartwatch.
  3. Is your smartphone updated? Check if your smartphone has the latest version of iOS or Android.
