How do you move an American fridge?
Move an American fridge in 3 steps
To get your American fridge in the right place as easily as possible, follow the 3 steps below.
- Step 1. Take off the doors
- Step 2. Place the fridge in the right place
- Step 3. Put the doors back on
Step 1: take off the doors
To make the American fridge less big and heavy, you can take off the doors. Does the fridge have a water dispenser? First, disconnect the water hose if it's already connected to prevent leaks. You can find the hose at the bottom near the door. Unscrew the hinge covers and disconnect the cable harness. That's the 2 blocks on a cable. Carefully lift the clamp near the hinge and remove the door hinge. Finally, lift the door out of the bottom hinge. In the manual, you can find exactly how to do this for your specific model.
Step 2: put the fridge in the right place
Now that the doors have been removed, the fridge is lighter and easier to lift. We recommend a trolley to easily move the fridge. Place the fridge on the trolley via its side and not via the back to prevent damage. Drive the fridge to where you will place it. Look out for doors and wall and try to avoid bumping into them. If you don't have a trolley, lift the fridge to the right place or use the wheels under the fridge to tilt it to the right place.
Step 3: put the doors back on
Once the fridge is in the right place, it's time to reassemble the doors. Don't forget to connect the water drain if your fridge has a dispenser. First, hook the door onto the bottom hinge. Place the top hinge and secure it with the clamp. Reconnect the harness and replace the hinge covers over the top hinges. Always check how to do this in the manual, as it varies by model.
