A side-by-side American fridge has a fridge compartment on one side and a freezer compartment on the other. On a French door American fridge, the fridge compartment is above the freezer compartment. These models also sometimes have a dispenser, so you can easily get some cold water or ice cubes.
Measure well
An American fridge is a large appliance. It's important that you're sure that it fits in the desired place in your kitchen. Keep the height, width, and depth in mind. Make sure there is extra space around your fridge everywhere for ventilation. This ensures the fridge continues to cool properly and it'll make less noise.
Useful tips
When you switch on your new American fridge for the first time, it'll be extra noisy. This is because the fridge and freezer compartments still have to reach the right temperature. Does your American fridge have a dispenser? In that case, rinse it thoroughly before use to clear all the dirt and air.
