Get the most out of your beard trimmer
Get started with your beard trimmer
You trim your beard by following the steps below. We'll explain these steps to you in this article.
- Make sure the battery is charged.
- Wash your face and beard.
- Choose a suitable shaving length.
- Trim against the direction of the hair growth.
- Create lines and details.
- Care for your trimmer and beard.
Step 1: make sure the battery is charged
Does your beard trimmer only work wirelessly or with a rechargeable battery? Charge the device or the batteries before you start your trimming session. Some trimmers work both wirelessly and wired. You don't have to charge these beforehand, but you'll have less freedom of movement when you use it with the wire. If you have a beard trimmer that only works on the power grid, make sure you trim near a socket.
Step 2: wash your face and beard
Wash your face and your beard with lukewarm water before each trimming session. When you wash your skin, the pores open and the beard hairs stand up straight. The lukewarm water also makes your beard hair softer, so you can trim them more easily. Dry your beard thoroughly after washing it.
Step 3: choose the right shaving length
Choose the right shaving length before you start trimming. To choose a length, you place a separate comb attachment on the beard trimmer or select the length on the device itself if it has an adjustable comb. If you want a stubble, choose a length between 0.5 and 3mm. For a medium to longer beard, you can choose a length of 10mm and longer. We recommend starting with a longer length, so you can always choose to go even shorter.
Step 4: trim against the direction of the hair growth
When you trim, you place the head of the beard trimmer against your cheek or beard and move it against the direction of the hair growth. That way, you can reach every hair and create an even result. If you have a longer beard, you should keep combing the hairs downwards while you're trimming. If you also like to trim your neck, trim in a vertical direction from your neck to your jaw line.
Step 5: create lines and details
After trimming your beard, you can use many beard trimmers for you neck hair, sideburns, and mustache as well. You use the precision trimmer or detail trimmer for this. On some beard trimmers, the precision trimmer is built into the device. With other trimmers, you receive a precision trimmer attachment. The small head of the precision trimmer allows you to easily trim the lines of your beard and style your mustache or sideburns if you want.
Step 6: care for your beard and trimmer
After trimming, you first wipe or blow the hairs off the beard trimmer. If the trimmer is washable, you can easily rinse the head under the faucet. If you want your blades to remain sharp for a long time, you should regularly lubricate them. You drop some oil on the blades and turn on the trimmer, so the oil spreads out over the blades. Finally, you can care for your beard by rubbing in some beard oil and regularly washing it with special beard shampoo.
