How does Coolblue Energy install solar panels on a flat roof?
What are the pros and cons?
We'll list the pros and cons of a flat solar roof for you:
- Solar panels on a flat roof have a better setup direction and incline than with a pitched roof.
- There's less shade on your solar panels, but this does depend on the environment around your house.
- Because the solar panels are out of sight, you can choose an uglier model that generates more energy.
- Purchasing solar panels for on a flat roof is more expensive than for a pitched roof.
Landscape or back to back setup?
Landscape setup
We'll install your solar panels in 2 ways. With a landscape setup, we'll install the panels at a 13° incline. Often, we'll do this facing south. We'll keep a distance of 50cm between the solar panels, so they don't create a shadow over another panel. The number of panels we can install on your roof depends on the space that's available and your energy consumption. With this setup, you can generate the most energy during the summer.
Back-to-back setup
Another way is the back to back setup. We'll install the panels in 2 rows back to back at a 13° incline. We often install the solar panels facing the east or west in this case. With this east-west or v-shape setup, you can generate more energy outside the summer period. Thanks to this, the solar panels generate more power throughout the entire year than with a landscape setup. This also allows for more solar panels to fit on your roof, even when it's small. We'll install the panels facing the north and south too.
