How do you net-meter with a 1-phase inverter and 3-phase smart meter?

Do you have a 1-phase inverter and a 3-phase smart meter? You can still net-meter with your solar panels. With a 1-phase inverter, you can transfer as much energy back as with a 3-plase inverter. We'll explain how this works in this article.

Net-metering with a smart meter

Coolblue with inverter

You can connect an inverter to 1-phase or 3-phase connectors. If your solar panels generate more than 5000W, you need a 3-phase inverter. Does your solar roof have less power? You can also choose a 1-phase inverter. In that case, your smart meter net-meters in 3 phases in your fuse box. So it doesn't matter if you install a 1 or 3-phase inverter on your 3-phase connector. This means that when you net-meter on phase 1 and turn on the washing machine on phase 3, your meter calculates 0 net. An advantage is that a 1-phase inverter is often more affordable.

What's net-metering?

You can net-meter when you return more energy to the grid than you consume. Your energy supplier then settles the returned solar energy with the energy you purchase. This often happens with the final invoice. You'll be compensated for the energy returned. Do you still have questions about net-metering with your 1-phase inverter?
