Product description

With the Canon EOS R6 Body + EF-EOS R Adapter, you can capture photos and videos that look professional. The mirrorless camera has a large full-frame image sensor and a fast DIGIC X processor. This makes it possible to take bright and sharp photos. You receive a useful EF-EOS R adapter, allowing you to mount the Canon EF-(S) lenses of your SLR camera onto the camera without losing image quality. The image stabilization of the camera reduces motion blur up to 5 stops. You can capture sharp photos and steady video footage handheld. When using the mechanical shutter, you can take pictures at 20 fps. This captures every moment of your subject, and is useful for you're taking photos of athletes or wild animals. The fast autofocus system recognizes and follows animals and people, which produces sharp photos. The eye recognition ensures that the camera automatically focuses on eyes.

Autofocus & low light beast

Coming from an entry-level DSLR, I'm slightly shocked at how good this camera is. My previous camera (also Canon) feels like a toy compared to this. The autofocus is insane. With focus points over 100% of the screen, focus&recompose, which made my photos always just a little less sharp, is finally a thing of the past. The touch and drag function is surprisingly useful and intuitive. I have never been able to move a focus point so quickly. There is also just a joystick. But in many cases you don't even have to move the focus point yourself, because of the face tracking and eye AF. The camera finds the eye of both humans and animals, and continues to focus on it. I shoot a lot of cats and the eye AF works just as well on that. You can also easily switch between faces/eyes in various ways. My ratio of sharp photos has increased enormously. Actually, just about all photos are sharp, and much sharper than I'm used to. If this is not the case, it is due to a too long shutter speed.
What is also impressive is low light performance. I need a flash significantly less often and the images are very clean for such low light.
The ergonomics are very nice, which I am used to from Canon, but even better.
The electronic viewfinder is fairly life-changing because you immediately see your exposure change in real time with your settings.
I find the control ring on the RF lens surprisingly useful for setting up a custom function yourself. The lens itself is very fast and I think the bokeh is nicer and more creamy than that of the EF 50mm.
And the most important thing: the quality of the photos is very high. Despite the fact that this camera has fewer megapixels than my previous one (20MP vs 24MP), the photos are so much nicer, sharper, clearer, better colors, better dynamic range, everything. Afterwards I laugh at myself a bit that I was worried about whether I would not see that 4MP less in a lower image quality. If that's what you're worried about, don't do it. Apparently there are more important things in a sensor than just the amount of MP, because the image quality of this sensor is a lot better than I'm used to from my previous sensor. It's almost not fair to compare them.
This camera really is a beast, and I'm very happy with it.

Very good camera with a world of possibilities.

  • Extremely fast focusing
  • Detects battery-powered faces or eyes
  • Stabilization in the body
  • Battery discharged relatively quickly

A very fast solid camera for people who have experience in operating cameras. For the beginner, the learning curve is too steeply different. A world of possibilities presents itself. Face recognition works phenomenally like the tracking and the in-body stabilizer is fantastic. Camera holds well and all buttons are perhaps even better operable than the EOS 5D mk4. Switching from the solid, robust 5D mk4 to this new camera takes some getting used to, but then you don't want anything else if people are usually your subject. For landscape and other still subjects I would prefer the traditional mk4.
And to think that this is only the first in the series (mark1), that promises something for the future. The 20 million pixels seems a bit small, but in practice it is sufficient for printed matter up to A3. For your own prints up to A2 size. The advantage of smaller files is of course that the storage capacity remains manageable. This camera probably goes on reportage more often than that other great camera 5D mk4.

RF lenses have made Sony GM line cheap....

  • Solid canon system camera
  • Can compete again
  • Lenses

Purchased last year and upgraded from 5DMkII from 2009. So of course an amazing upgrade and very happy in the beginning. I had been waiting for a modern system camera from Canon for years and finally it was here. Qualitative, ergonomically not much to complain about, but I had/have trouble getting used to the control ring and the surplus of buttons. Maybe I'm just getting old.
I thought briefly about Sony but their menus are atrocious and their lenses more expensive than the EF series....

Until now the RF line. I have the 50mm 1.2L and the 100-500mm. They are both too big, heavy and way too expensive. Optically fantastic but there is still severely insufficient supply in the RF line. Canon seems to have renounced 3d parties for good and the price grab on RF + the horribly increased weight, size made me decide to stop using Canon (after 30 years). It's too expensive, heavy and big. Add to that the lack of nice, cheap(er) lenses such as the Sigma art line, Tarmon 25-150mm and talle 84mm 1.3 for less than 50% of the price: I'm done with it.
