The WD Red Plus WD40EFZX 4TB is optimized for NAS systems and is suitable for home users as well as small or medium-sized companies. Expand your NAS with this 3.5-inch hard drive and you can share your files with your devices at home or at the office in multiple RAID applications. You could use the Red Plus as a backup drive, something the base models aren't suitable for. With 4TB, you'll have enough storage capacity for 400 Full HD movies of 2 hours or 400,000 photos. Thanks to the built-in anti-vibration sensors, the drive will last longer than a regular hard drive. With a rotation speed of 5400RPM, this drive is energy-efficient, too. When you're not processing any files, the WD40EFZX lifts the read-write head from the disk. That way, it doesn't wear as fast, which makes the drive more durable.

Great drive for a NAS system. Due to low energy consumption and limited noise production, it is recommended for systems that are on 24/7. The speed of 5400rpm is more than sufficient for this purpose (higher disk speed means more power consumption, more heat and noise, but makes little sense for a home NAS). Can't say much about the reliability (using 4 units in a Synology NAS for a few weeks), but because of previous good experiences with WD I have confidence in the lifespan.
