According to our gimbal expert
Note: you need extra accessories to attach your smartphone or action camera.
The Zhiyun Crane is a gimbal for smartphones, cameras, and action cameras. With the 6 different modes, the gimbal makes certain movements. This way, you can easily record various shots. In PF mode, for example, the gimbal makes a horizontal movement when you turn the handle to the left or right. Thanks to the compact design, you can easily take the gimbal with you on the road. You can connect the gimbal to your smartphone or camera via WiFi or Bluetooth. This allows you to control your smartphone or camera with the gimbal. You can do this with the control buttons on the grip. You can easily attach your camera with the quick release system. With the special markings and memory slots, you can balance the camera and lock this position.

I've had the Zhiyun Crane M2 for about 3 months now. I chose this gimbal because I wanted a stabilizer for my phone and GoPro in particular. Handy that both fit on this system and possibly also a small camera. A phone holder is included. For the GoPro I bought a mount with 1/4" thread. I use it as a hobbyist. For this purpose the stabilization is fine. It fits well in the hand. My videos look much better than before when I was shooting handheld. The position of the buttons could be a little better (handle maybe a little longer). Now I often accidentally press a button while holding the gimbal. It is also a bit more difficult to operate for left-handers. In addition, I have the problem that my phone has a maximum of 10 minutes before it goes into sleep mode. When unlocking the phone I have to grab it, which often causes the gimbal to go into error mode. You can only reset the gimbal by turning the gimbal off and on again. A button for this would be more convenient . The micro-USB port is handy to charge the phone. I have a fairly large phone, but with the right cable (90 degree angle) the gimbal can still be aligned. A cable with a straight plug is too large. Then the phone sticks out too much and the counterweight can no longer handle it. The battery life of the gimbal is sufficient. Also handy that there are attachment points for extensions both on the bottom (tripod/tripod) and on the side (bar for e.g. film lamp). The accompanying app (ZY play) works well with the Samsung S9+, also in 4K mode (a previously often heard complaint), both in camera mode (phone is camera) and operating mode (phone functions as a remote control for the gimbal). The GoPro Hero 8 is not supported. Too bad you can't pair two phones at the same time (one as a camera and another as a remote control). Just make sure that you choose 'For Pro Cameras' instead of 'For smartphones', even when using a smartphone as a camera, otherwise the app will not recognize the Zhiyun Crane M2.

This gimbal is great for those with a flagship smartphone and for supported cameras and lenses. Please check the website first. If your camera is not there, you may have problems balancing. Those with cameras with inbuild lenses. This is also becoming a problem. With the Lumix G7, the balancing was okay, but vortek, for example, didn't work and the motor had trouble balancing. With the DMC-LX100 and DC-FZ82, the vertical axis could not be balanced. So sent back
