Pros and cons

According to our studio microphone expert
  • You record at 24 bit/44.1kHz, so you can record in higher quality than with the Blue Snowball microphones.
  • Thanks to the latency-free headphones output, you can listen to your vocal recordings while you speak without delays.
  • If you want to detect a group of speakers clearly, you can turn on the omnidrectional directional characteristic.
  • If sound quality is important to you, you shouldn't connect the microphone to your computer via a USB hub.
  • The Blue Yeti Nano has 2 recording modes, while the Blue Yeti uses 4 different modes.

Description

The Blue Yeti Nano is a USB microphone you can record podcasts, stream games, and create voice-overs with. Thanks to the 24-bit/44.1kHz recordings, you're have a higher recording quality than with the Blue Snowball microphones. You hear how your voice sounds right away, because the headphones output if latency-free. This means that there's no delay between your speech and the sound reproduction of the headphones. So you can focus on your podcast or stream. When you record a group of speakers, turn on the omnidirectional directional characteristics. With this directional characteristic enabled, the microphone is sensitive to all directions. So you can record speech from every possible direction. Are you the only speaker or does every speaker have their own Yeti Nano? Turn on the cardioid directional characteristic. This way, you record sound from one direction and prevent recording noises. If you want to add effects and professional filters to your vocals, download the Blue VO!CE software. This software is free for this microphone and you can download it via the Blue website.

Nice thing, but be careful with Windows 10!

  • nice sound
  • nice design
  • there are compatibility issues with windows 10

The microphone is decent, has a nice design and - most importantly - the recordings sound good (I recommend watching some Youtube reviews, then you can experience that sound for yourself). It's also very easy to use: just plug in and you're good to go. If you still want to mess with settings, you can download the Sherpa program from the Blue website.
But.... unfortunately there are compatibility issues with Windows10. The gain was directly related to the outgoing volume (it shouldn't), so a decent volume only came out when the gain was at 80-100. You don't want that! After hours of research on the internet, we eventually found a solution: tweak the outgoing decibels yourself with the free downloadable Configuration Editor program. Now I can set the gain to around 35 without major volume loss. I was already about to send the microphone back, but in the end I was satisfied with this solution.
Oh yes, I also recommend buying a pop filter with it, that does make a difference.
