Pros and cons

According to our smartwatch expert
  • With the integrated heart rate sensor, you measure your heart rate via your wrist.
  • When you link the activity tracker to your smartphone, it uses the GPS function.
  • Caller ID shows you the phone number of the person contacting you.
  • The activity tracker is only splash proof, so you can't go swimming with it.
  • Do you want to connect your Fitbit to your computer, but your computer doesn't have Bluetooth? In that case you need a dongle, which unfortunately is not included.
  • With intensive use, the strap can start to show signs of wear.

Description

The Fitbit Charge 2 keeps you informed of your activities throughout the day, whether you're at work or at the gym. The big screen shows you how many steps you've taken and what your heart rate is. In addition, the tracker analyzes your calorie consumption, sleep rhythm, and the distance you walk. Analyze all of your data on the accompanying Fitbit app. Have you spent too much time at work sitting at your desk? The Charge 2 gives you a sign, when you need to take a little walk. The tracker also indicates when you need to rest by giving you breathing exercises. Messages, calendar notifications, and incoming calls are also shown on the display. Adjust the display to your personal preferences by making a selection from the different watch faces.

Note: an adapter isn't included. Do you want to charge the watch via a socket? If so, order an adapter separately. Note: Fitbit isn't compatible with Huawei smartphones.

Note: The Fitbit doesn't have a Dutch manual, and the software isn't available in Dutch either. Of course, the manual and software are available in English.

A worthy successor to the Fitbit Charge HR

  • design
  • Interchangeable straps
  • App remains great
  • Not waterproof

I have had the Fitbit Charge 2 at home since September 10. I expected it September 14, but it was delivered earlier than the release date. Coolblue, thanks again for the fast delivery.

My first impression is good. Before this I had the Fitbit Charge HR (version 1) and the charge 2 is really an improvement. The display is bigger, brighter and it looks sleeker. He also uses the phone's GPS. The strap fits a lot better than the previous version, which could sometimes irritate. I think that was because the strap of the previous version was stiffer and therefore more chafed at the edges. A nice extra is that you can now also change straps and therefore clean the strap better. That was more difficult with the previous version, because it is not waterproof and you had to be careful with water. Unfortunately, the Charge 2 is not waterproof either, so you can't swim with it.

The vibration function is also very useful. When you get a message or phone call, the Fitbit will vibrate and indicate who is messaging or calling. This way you won't miss a call if your phone is in your bag or pocket and it is on silent or vibrating mode. The Charge 2 also provides calendar notifications and when you need to move. I find a disadvantage that the vibration function in the Fitbit Charge 2 is not clearly felt, there is a chance that you will not feel the vibration. That was better with the previous version.

Using the Charge 2 in conjunction with the app also seems to have improved. The synchronization is significantly faster compared to the Charge HR. Furthermore, the app remains user-friendly, clear and beautiful. Thanks to the GPS link with the phone, you can now also see where you have run, cycled or walked during the exercise. When you run, walk or cycle for a longer period of time, Fitbit registers that you have done an exercise. This can also be turned on manually.

Another big advantage is that you can connect Fitbit with other apps, such as Endomondo, MyFitnessPal and Stava. But there are many more, possibly found on the Fitbit site. I myself use MyFitnessPal to register food and water use. Calories and water consumption are automatically synced with the Fitbit app and it works great.

The Fitbit Charge 2 is a worthy successor to the Fitbit Charge HR and I'm very happy with my purchase overall

105% satisfied !!!

  • Looks good
  • Battery lasts a long time compared to a classic smartwatch
  • Does what is promised
  • Not waterproof

A little over a year ago I bought a smartwatch from Sony. The main purpose was to use it as a sports watch. But in fact it quickly became clear that he was worthless as a pedometer. If I was out with a wife who had that decent activity tracker, I notice differences of up to 50%. The smartwatch also had GPS on board. But if there were a few branches above my head, I lost the signal. And sometimes it took half an hour before I could get a GPS fix. So as an activity tracker she was worthless and on to a new watch.

So that has become the Charge 2. Although I am usually a gadget freak who mainly pays attention to the specifications, this time the design was an important criteria for me.
In addition, I also absolutely wanted heart rate measurement.
GPS is a nice extra but not a must.

So the fitbit alta dropped out due to no heartbeat.

In terms of specifications, the Polar A360 and the Garmin Vivosmart HR remain. Although these are waterproof, they are also ugly. The vivosmart mainly reminds me of an electronic ankle bracelet.

So yes… the just-released Charge 2 remained. Although it does not have its own GPS, the cooperation with the GPS of your smartphone is excellent.

Choice was made quickly. As always, delivery by coolblue was fast and correct. When unpacking the watch I was actually a bit surprised in a positive way. I expected the watch to look a lot heavier. But that really worked out.

No reason to complain about the operation.
Does what it should do.
Nice app on android (on iOS I don't know).
Data easily consultable via website on my MacBook.
Syncing is done exemplary.
I've had the watch for a few weeks now and have gotten 2 or 3 firmware updates anyway (not that I noticed any issues that necessitated a firmware update... but does illustrate that Fitbit is paying attention).

Are there not things that could be done better? Sure they are... but they're not things that would make me not buy the watch again.

But for the sake of completeness, also the things that I would prefer to see differently:
* The display is bright ... very bright. There is no way to adjust that brightness or turn off the display. This sometimes means that after some rooting in bed, the room is suddenly seriously lit. A possibility to put the watch in a night mode where it is only illuminated after pressing the button would therefore be an improvement.

* I would also have liked to see a number of extra activities possible. Now you can choose between 7 different ones ... but I would have liked a few more to start with an extra activity for the most common cardio equipment of the fitness.

* Notifications ... actually these are limited to text messages ... but there are apps for android that ensure that all notifications can come through on your watch (Fit Notifications ... not developed by Fitbit itself but works fine).

But suppose my Charge 2 were gone tomorrow, then I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy the same one again!

Perfect successor!

  • nice design
  • Great battery life
  • Good motivation
  • Vibration function less strong

The Fitbit charge 2 is my second Fitbit. Before this I had the charge HR. The Design is very nice. It straps better than its predecessor. Feels good and is very smooth. The battery life has increased considerably. Get at least 4 to 5 days. This of course depends on my activities.

I use the Fitbit in combination with an iPhone. The app looks well organized and this is the place where all data comes together. pedometer, heart rate, distance traveled, calories burned, stairs climbed, active minutes and of course your sleep rhythm. Syncing has also become much faster. Perhaps a drawback for some is that everything is in English.

What I also find useful is that I can see who is calling on my watch. SMS messages and calendar appointments can also be displayed. In addition, the alarm clock function is also a godsend so that only you wake up from the vibrating function. And not the rest of the family.

Some cons I can think of are. The vibration function is less strong than its predecessor, so I don't always feel it directly. Sometimes during an activity my heart rate is not registered. The watch is not waterproof. And there is no GPS chip in the watch itself. So you always have to have your phone with you to record an activity route.

Would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to be more conscious about their health.
To achieve the standard day goals, I take the stairs more often.

I am very satisfied with this successor!
