According to our camera microphone expert
The RØDE VideoMicro is a compact condenser microphone that you can use to improve the sound quality of your videos. This microphone focuses on the sound in front of your camera, and compresses loud sounds. This means you won't get any distortion in your audio, and the recording will be crystal clear. Thanks to the included hanging stabilizer and the ceramic finish, resonating vibrations won't be recorded. White noise caused by wind is annoying, but the included DeadMouse solves this problem. The microphone is powered via your camera's 3.5mm jack input. You can mount this microphone onto a tripod, or directly onto the hot shoe adapter on your camera. The new design of the VideoMicro ensures that the microphone is firmly and stably attached to your camera.
Note: this microphone isn't compatible with the Canon Legria HF G26.4.

I was looking for an external microphone to connect to my SLR for not too much money. Because I mainly film people who have something to say, I chose a shotgun microphone. Background sounds (literally from behind) are therefore recorded much less than with any other kind of microphone. Ease of use Installing this microphone is quite easy. To get the microphone into the holder, you need some control and strength. If it's stuck, it's tight too. You don't really dare to let go of him. The wind filter that comes with it works very well! On a stormy day I tried it, and it works perfectly. The wind noise is no longer dominant and people can simply be heard. You attach the microphone to the flash foot of your camera and secure it with a rotating ring. There are a number of recesses in that ring. You can click the audio cable in there so that it does not 'whip' around your camera. Sound quality As mentioned, this microphone also records well in wind. The wind filter does dampen all sounds, so if you use the filter it is useful to set the recording level a bit higher in the settings of your camera. Or, of course, speak a little louder. So are you looking for a good microphone to interview people, even in strong winds, for not too much money? Then this is your next purchase that will make you smile!

Good microphone for a reasonable price. The difference in sound quality is clearly audible. I use it on a Canon EOS 750D and compared to the built-in Mic this is highly recommended. With the supplied deadcat you can also record well outdoors. I can recommend the VideoMicro to anyone looking for a first external microphone for their GoPro or Camera (if hot shoe is available).

It is a very good microphone for the price. The microphone is pretty much ready for use out of the box and post-processing is not very necessary due to the decent quality and the windshield. It doesn't have the very best sound, but it definitely beats the sound quality of most DSLRs and system cameras. Overall a good product and definitely recommended for novice filmmakers who take their profession seriously.
