Pros and cons

According to our binoculars expert
  • Compact monocular with a magnification of 8x25.
  • Fully multi-coated lenses for sharp, high-contrast images.
  • Completely waterproof thanks to the sealing with O-rings and filling with argon.
  • While the monocular is waterproof, the addition of Armortek coating would have made the monocular just a little more weatherproof.

Super thing!

  • Very handy carrying clip
  • robust
  • excellent image quality

For me as a walker, these binoculars are ideal. I like landscapes and nature, but I'm not a real bird watcher or anything. I just want to take a closer look every now and then. The (super handy!!!) carrying clip allows me to hang the binoculars from the straps of my backpack. The moment I see something I would like to see up close, I immediately have it at hand. With standard binoculars it takes considerably longer before you have that thing out of the backpack, etc. Then the bird has often literally already flown. I walk fairly long walks (+20km) which makes wearing binoculars around my neck irritating. Due to the light weight of this viewer, you do not notice that it is hanging on your backpack. In other reviews I read that focusing would be difficult; I didn't notice any of that. I find that the viewer offers a very pleasant resistance when focusing. I bought the 8x36. This magnifies enough for me on the road. I have no experience with the 10x36. If I had to mention a small downside, it would be that the carrying clip does slightly affect the comfort in the hand when using it, but that doesn't outweigh the fun you get from the carrying clip when you're on the go.

monocular

fits comfortably in the hand (hand-tight)
nice colors and sharp
we use it for art paintings on ceilings e.g. in churches, Sistine chapel
nice if you wear glasses by extending the lens slightly, your glasses do not touch the lens
very easy to adjust sharpness, start a bit stiff
we are 65 plus and find it very user friendly

Vortex Solo 10x36

Very handy viewer!
I personally think this is the best value for money.
The optical quality is quite good for that price. The only drawback is the somewhat poor bag where the viewer is in, this is not completely closed so that dirt can get to it faster. In terms of reliability, this is highly recommended! And the very long warranty is a nice bonus. Would I buy it again now that I've tested it... for me this is definitely a yes.
