What types of heat pumps are there?
Introduction
There are several types of heat pumps to heat your house sustainably. At Coolblue Energy, we sell air-water heat pumps that we can install both hybrid and fully electric. There are even more different types of heat pumps. In this article, we'll tell you more on this.
1. Air-water heat pump
An air-water heat pump extracts heat from the outdoor air and heats the water for your heater and faucet water with this. This type of heat pump is popular in the Netherlands, because the installation is easy for existing buildings. At Coolblue Energy, we only install this model. We'll place the outdoor unit outside your house and connect it to your heating system. Air-water heat pumps keep your house warm, even during cold winter days. Depending on the model, the outdoor unit sometimes makes more noise.
2. Air-air heat pump
An air-air heat pump extracts heat from the outside air and heats or cools the air in your house. This system is the same as an air conditioner. You don't heat water for your shower of heater with this. An air-air heat pump is useful if you have a house without central heating, or want to heat or cool separate rooms. That's why you often see this heat pump in hotel rooms in the Netherlands.
1. Ground-water heat pump
A ground-water heat pump, also called geothermal heat pump, takes heat from the ground. This happens via a tube system that's vertically or horizontally in the ground. Because the temperature in the ground is the same, you can keep your house warm. Even in the winter. A disadvantage of the system is that the installation is harder and more expensive. This heat pump is a good choice if you have a newly built house or if you do a big renovation of your house.
4. Water-water heat pump
A water-water heat pump uses ground or surface water as heat source. The system pumps the water to the surface, extracts the heat, and then pumps it back into the ground. You can heat your ground and the tap water with this. The system works very well, but the installation is harder and more expensive. A water-water heat pump is useful if you live close to water sources, for example a well or a lake.
