5 misunderstandings about heat pumps
Introduction
Heat pumps are becoming more and more popular, but there are still many misunderstandings about this sustainable way of heating. Not sure if you want to make the switch? In this article, you can read more about the 5 most important misunderstandings. That way, you're sure you make a good choice.
1. Heat pumps don't work well when the weather is cold
Many people think that heat pumps are only suitable for milder climates, when it doesn't become cold quickly. The technology for heat pumps has changed, so they also work well with low outdoor temperatures. Even when it's freezing outside, the heat pump can still take heat from the air.
2. A heat pump doesn't warm up your house enough
A heat pump heats up your house with 35 to 55°C, while a boiler heats up with 60 to 80°C. A heat pump still provides a comfortable interior temperature, because the temperature remains even. A boiler keeps turning on and off, so the temperature goes up and down quickly. It's important that your house is well-insulated, so the heat remains inside.
3. Heat pumps are too expensive
The purchase of a heat pump is an investment. You still spend less in the long run, because you'll save a lot on gas. The government also offers the ISDE subsidy, so you can get a part of your investment back. That way, you can start saving affordably.
4. Heat pumps make a lot of noise
The very first heat pumps makes a lot of sounds, which started the belief that they're all loud. The new and modern heat pumps are much more silent. On average, the noise level of a heat pump is around 55dB. You can also choose a model with extra sound insulation.
5. A heat pump is only for new-built houses
When you think of a heat pump, you might think of a large indoor unit that takes up a lot of space in your house. These models often only fit in newly-built houses. But there are also smaller models with a much smaller indoor unit. At Coolblue Energy, we install Weheat indoor units. These are about the same size as an internet modem. This way, you can also sustainably heat existing houses.
