Green energy

Green energy is a sustainable form of energy that's generated by wind or the sun, for example. Green energy is 'regular' electricity, but doesn't tax the environment. We'll explain to you what green energy is and what the advantages are.

Green versus gray energy

There are 2 kinds of energy: gray and green energy. The difference is the source that generates the electricity.

  • Green energy is generated by windmills and solar panels. These energy sources, the wind and the sun, are inexhaustible. In addition, no harmful substances are released with this kind of generated energy.

  • Gray energy is created by burning fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and petroleum. This creates greenhouse gases that aren't good for the environment. These sources also are exhaustible.

So in generating energy, there's a large difference between green and gray. But you don't see a difference between green and gray energy on the power grid. Energy is energy.

How do I know if I use green energy?

In practice, you won't notice a difference between green or gray energy. It comes from the same socket and is used in the same way. But there's a noticeable difference for the environment and for your energy bill. When the yield of your solar panels isn't enough to cover your entire consumption, you can supplement this with energy your energy supplier provides. In this case, you can choose to get green energy. In many cases, you get a warranty certificate or a green certificate. As a Coolblue Energy customer, you consume 100% green generated energy from the Netherlands.

The advantages of green energy with solar panels

Green energy is better for the environment, but it also has a few other advantages. We'll list all the advantages for you.

  1. Solar panels are better for the environment than the usage of fossil fuels.
  2. Your energy bill decreases because you generate energy yourself with solar panels.
  3. You're less dependent on an energy supplier.
  4. You're not dependent on finite, fossil fuels.
