At Coolblue Energy, the CO2 emission of the gas consumption is compensated. Think of contributing to sustainable projects to plant and protect forests in South America, for example.

With CO2-compensated gas, we compensate the emission of the consumption by supporting projects that reduce CO2 emission. There's a small surcharge on every cubic meter of gas we consume to invest in forest protection projects in South America. As a trade-off, we receive Carbon Credits that are equal to the amount of CO2 the consumed gas emits. The forest protection projects we invest in are VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) and REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest degradation) certified.

Are you a Coolblue Energy customer and do you consume gas? You're automatically contributing to the projects we support. That's because we compensate the natural gas consumption of all our customers, including yours. You don't have to do anything for this.

I want to go gas-free, what should I do?

Are you going to live gas-free (soon)? Cancel your Connection and Transport Agreement (ATO) with your network operator. You can request the closure of your gas connection yourself via www.mijnaansluiting.nl. The network operator removes the gas flow meter setup and the gas connection duct for free. Even when you have an ongoing contract with gas, we won't make you pay a cancellation fee. That way, you can easily make the switch to gas-free living for free. Now that's honest.

What can I do if I don't want to completely go off gas?

If you don't want to fully close your gas connection? You can also close it for a period of up to 12 months. After this period, you can decide whether you want to definitively close your gas connector or want to reconnect it. You'll have to request this yourself. Note: the network operator would charge your to reconnect it. Removing your gas connection (definitively) doesn't cost you anything.

Can I only buy gas?

Unfortunately not. We only deliver CO2-compensated gas in combination with 100% green energy. We don't offer this separately.
