Recognize overheated iPhone

Recognize overheated iPhone

The optimal temperature for your iPhone is between 0 and 35°C. In temperatures higher than this, your device will notify you that it's time to cool down. If you get this notification, you don't have to worry that your device has been damaged. Apple notifies you so you can take action in time. When your iPhone overheats, it works slowly or refuses to work at all. In addition, the flash doesn't work and demanding apps like games or navigation are slower.

Solve overheated iPhone

Turn off iPhone

To cool down your overheated iPhone, you place it in a cool place out of the sun. Turn off as many apps and functions as possible, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Ideally, you turn off your iPhone entirely. After 15 minutes, you can check if your phone is sufficiently cooled down and works the way you're used to. Don't put your phone in the fridge. This can cause damage, because your phone doesn't handle extreme temperature changes very well.

Prevent overheated iPhone

The temperature of your iPhone can increase due to different reasons. Below, you can find the most common causes. If you want to prevent overheating, it's best to avoid these situations.

  1. Leaving your iPhone in the bright sunlight.
  2. Leaving your iPhone out in the sun in a car.
  3. Forgetting to close demanding apps and games.
  4. Charging with non-certified chargers.

In some cases, your iPhone becomes warm without overheating. For example, during a large update or while restoring a backup. That's normal and your iPhone will cool down on its own.
