What does the condition of a refurbished iPhone or iPad mean?

Refurbished iPhone and iPad models are available in various conditions. At Coolblue, you can choose from 3 different conditions. There's as good as new, lightly used, and visibly used. The condition indicates the traces of use on a refurbished iPhone or iPad. In this article, we'll tell you more about the condition of refurbished Apple products.

What do we mean with the condition?

The condition of a refurbished iPhone or iPad says something about the exterior of a device. The better the condition of the device, the fewer traces of use you see. Most traces of use don't affect the way your iPhone or iPad works. It doesn't really matter what the condition of the phone is, because it always works like a new device. All refurbished iPhone and iPad models are checked on the inside and repaired where needed. The display or camera is replaced when they're broken, for example.

The different conditions

The condition of the refurbished iPhone

If you buy a refurbished iPhone or iPad, it always shows a grade. That way, you'll know the condition of the product. At Coolblue, you can choose from the conditions below:

  • As good as new (A-grade): the device looks almost like new, but may show light scratches on the screen or housing.
  • Lightly used (B-grade): the product has some traces of use. Think about visible scratches on the screen and housing.
  • Visibly used (C-grade): you'll clearly see traces of use. The device has deep scratches on the screen and the housing is damaged.

As good as new (A-grade)

A-grade refurbished iPad

Refurbished iPhone models are very hard to tell apart from new iPhone models. You don't see any or only light traces of use on the housing or the screen. For example, this can be a small dent on the edge or a slight scratch on the screen.

Lightly used (B-grade)

Lightly used refurbished iPhone and iPad models show multiple traces of use. You might find scratches on the screen and the back of the device, for example. These traces of use don't affect the way your device works. Put a case around your device and hide any scratches and dents. A lightly used iPhone or iPad is more affordable than a model that's new or as good as new.

Visibly used (C-grade)

Visibly used refurbished iPhone and iPad models show the most traces of use. The traces of use are often deeper and more easily visible. There might be deep scratches on the screen or housing. These traces of use also don't affect the way your refurbished iPhone or iPad works. Compared to the other conditions, a visibly used device is the most affordable. The damages to the device can easily be hidden by a case and screen protector.

Advantages of A-grade refurbished

Quality mark refurbished iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch

It has a couple of advantages to buy an A-grade refurbished iPhone or iPad model at Coolblue.

  • You'll get an almost new iPhone or iPad model for a lower price than the new price.
  • Because the product barely shows any damages, it's unlikely that the damage becomes worse. For example, a screen with deep scratches is more likely to break.
  • If you keep the device neat, you'll get more money if you end up selling it or if you trade it in at a later time.
