Obstacle detection is a term you'll regularly see for drones. But what does it mean, and what does it mean for your flight? I'll explain it all in this article.

When you fly with your drone, you don't want to fly into anything and crash your drone. With obstacle detection, you can prevent these situations. The drone can detect all sorts of obstacles, from bushes to poles and fences. As soon as the drone notices an obstacle, it stops flying. you'll get a notification on your controller or smartphone, so you can fly around it.

Your drone has various sensors that constantly make all sorts of scans. The software in the drone analyses and combines all this data and information. If it detects danger, the software commands the drone to stop for the obstacle. In the app, you can see which obstacle the drone detected. You can then steer the drone around it, so it doesn't fly into the obstacle.

The sensors are often at the bottom, front, and back of the drone to protect is from all corners. Not every drones as the same number of sensors. Some devices have more. Advanced drones often also have a sensor on top for extra detection and protection.
