How do you upload a 360-degree video to Facebook?

You've made a 360-degree video and want to share it with your Facebook friends. The question is, how? In this article, we'll explain how to upload a 360-degree video to Facebook step-by-step.

What do you need?

  • 360-degree camera.
  • 360-degree video.
  • Facebook account.
  • Computer or smartphone.

Step 1: make a 360 degree video

Before uploading a video to Facebook, you need a video. So, make a video with your 360-degree camera and put it on your computer or smartphone.

Step 2: upload the video to Facebook

Don't you have a Facebook account yet? Register to create one. Your personal Facebook page is called a timeline. On this timeline, you'll see all your posts, photos, and videos. Click Photo/video at the top of your timeline page. Then click Add photos/videos and select a video on your computer or smartphone. You now have the option to add a description, title, or tag to your video.

Step 3: check if your 360-degree cameras automatically add metadata

Many 360-degree cameras automatically add metadata to the video, so it can be viewed as 360-degrees. If your camera adds this automatically, you can skip the following steps and upload the video directly. How do you know if your camera adds metadata to the video? Check if you can view the video preview on Facebook in 360 degrees. If this is the case, click Post. If not, the camera doesn't automatically add metadata and you have to do step 4 and 5.

Step 4: select a thumbnail

A thumbnail is a small image that appears on your timeline when you upload the video. Based on the thumbnail, people will get an impression of your video. You can choose the image by clicking the arrows on the preview of your video. Or, click Custom image.

Step 5: indicate that it's a 360-degree video

With older devices, Facebook doesn't recognize that the uploaded video is a 360-degree video right away. To set this up, click the Advanced tab. Then, click the box next to This video is recorded in 360-degree format to make the tab 360 checks appear. Now click the tab 360 Director Tools to set the original image angle of your video to 360 degrees. And lastly, click Post to upload your video to Facebook.
