How do you connect a freestanding fridge?
Set up fridge in 7 steps
With the following steps, you can safely set up your fridge.
- Step 1: make sure you have a socket
- Step 2: provide a suitable environment
- Step 3: choose a flat surface
- Step 4: keep 5cm open
- Step 5: check the space for the door
- Step 6: turn on the fridge
- Step 7: put the fridge at 4°C
Step 1: make sure you have a socket nearby
You connect a fridge to an earthed socket. Make sure it's nearby, so you don't need extension cords or power strips. These accessories can't handle the constant high power, so they overheat or ignite. Do you have an American fridge with water dispenser? Also make sure you have a water supply nearby.
Step 2: provide a suitable environment
Make sure the ambient temperature matches the climate class of the fridge. The room can't be too cold, too hot, or too humid. That way, you make sure the fridge doesn't break and that your groceries don't spoil. Also don't put your fridge in direct sunlight or next to a heat source, like an oven or radiator.
Step 3: choose a flat surface
Put your fridge on a flat surface. This way, you make sure your groceries don't roll about, or that the fridge makes more noise. With the legs, you can also set up the fridge so that it tilts backwards slightly. That way, the door closes better, and you don't waste energy.
Step 4: leave 5cm of free space
A fridge needs space for ventilation. Keep at least 5cm free at the back and sides of the fridge. In the manual, you can also find the recommended distance. This way, the fridge cools better, and it doesn't use more energy than if you put it close to the wall.
Step 5: check the space for the door
Check if there's enough space for the door of the fridge to open 90 degrees. Is the standard door direction left, and doesn't that work? With some fridges, you can reverse the door. Do you want us to do that in our warehouse? Choose this extra service with your order.
Step 6: turn on the fridge
If the fridge stands sturdy in the spot where you want it, you can turn it on. Most fridges have a power button. If you don't have this button, the appliance turns on when you plug the connector in the socket. Hasn't the fridge been transported upright? In that case, there might be oil of the motor in the compressor. Wait for 4 hours before you turn the fridge on, so the oil can lower. That way, you make sure the fridge doesn't brake.
Step 7: set the fridge to 4°C
You set the fridge to 4°C. At this temperature, you can store your groceries best. Put some bottles of water in the fridge, so the temperature lowers more quickly.
