How do you switch from gas to induction with an ETNA cooktop?

With an ETNA cooktop, you can switch from gas to induction pretty easily. Always check the connector of your kitchen first, so you know which cooktop is suitable. In this article, you can read about everything you should take into account if you want to switch from cooking with gas to cooking with induction.

What should you keep in mind?

Switching from gas to induction with an ETNA cooktop doesn't have to be difficult. To ensure you can switch smoothly, follow these 5 steps.

  • Step 1: check the socket.
  • Step 2: check the number of phases.
  • Step 2b: choose 1 phase or power management.
  • Step 3: determine the size.
  • Step 4: choose the functions.
  • Step 5: choose the controls.

Step 1: check the socket

To find out which ETNA cooktop fits in your kitchen, check the socket you're going to use. There are 2 types of sockets:

  • 2-pin Schuko/Gardy sockets with 2 openings
  • 5-pin Perilex sockets with 5 openings

With a 5-pin socket, your kitchen is suitable for a 2 or 3-phase cooktop. If this is the case, continue to step 2a. Only have a 2-pin socket and don't want to convert your fuse box? Go to step 2b.

Step 2a: check the number of phases

3-phase power

If you have a Perilex socket, you still don't know how many power phases it has. The easiest way to measure this is with a multimeter. Don't have one? Open the fuse box to check the number of electric circuits. Do you see a large cooker circuit that consists of 4 connected circuits? That means you have high-voltage power and that the socket is suitable for 3 phases. Aren't you sure? Have an electrician take a look.

Step 2b: choose 1 phase or power management

Don't want to convert your fuse box or aren't you allowed to because you live in a rental house? Choose a 1-phase induction cooktop or a cooktop with power management. You can connect the ETNA Plug & Cook induction cooktops with a regular connector. Keep in mind that these aren't as powerful, so you can't use all cooking zones at maximum power. Want to eventually convert the fuse box? Choose a cooktop with power management. This is suitable for both a regular socket and a Perilex socket.

Step 3: determine the size

Now that you know how many phases your kitchen has, choose the right cooktop size. Do you want a freestanding cooktop? Carefully check where you're going to place it. If you have a compact fridge, a slightly narrower 55cm cooktop is suitable. If you choose a built-in cooktop, check the niche dimensions. That way, you know that it fits in the opening of your counter.

Step 4: choose the functions

With an induction cooktop, you have more useful functions than with a gas cooktop. Do you like roasting meat or prefer to grill vegetables? Choose an ETNA induction cooktop with flexible cooking zones. This way, you can create space for large elongated pans. Do you bake a lot during the weekends? Melt chocolate and butter a constant 42°C temperature with the melt function. You can also use this function to thaw dishes or ingredients.

Step 5: choose the controls

Cooktop controls

With a gas cooktop, you control the cooking zones with dials. If you get an induction cooktop, you have several options. Choose the right cooking zone with the sensor buttons before you set the setting. With ETNA Performance cooktops, each cooking zone has its own controls you can easily adjust. Or, choose slider controls so you can slide your finger to the desired temperature or setting. Do you want the old-fashioned feeling when you cook? There are also ETNA induction cooktops with dials.
