How do you move a freezer?
Move freezer in 4 steps
Follow these steps one day before the move itself, so you have enough time to empty and defrost the appliance.
*Step 1. Empty the freezer.
- Step 2. Defrost the freezer.
- Step 3. Fasten loose parts.
- Step 4. Move the freezer upright.
Step 1: empty the freezer
First, empty the freezer as much as possible. You can temporarily store your groceries in a different freezer or in a cooler.
Step 2: defrost the freezer
Remove the connector from the socket. Ice there ice buildup in the freezer? Wait for the appliance to be defrosted. You can scrape off the ice with blunt objects. After that, use some soapy water to clean the freezer.
Step 3: fasten loose parts
Remove the drawers and shelves or fasten them with tape. This way, you prevent them from moving and damaging the interior during the move. You can fasten the door with a strap or tape to keep it closed.
Step 4: move the freezer upright
You always move a freezer upright so the oil of the compressor won't leak into the cooling pipes and damage it. Once you've installed the freezer in the desired place, you can connect it. Did you move the freezer tilted anyway? Wait before you turn it on. You can find the recommended waiting time in the manual. If you've lost it, wait 4 to 24 hours.
