How do you know which laundry is and isn't suitable for the dryer?
Tips for what can and can't go in the dryer
You want to know which types of laundry can and can't go in the dryer. To answer this, you can use these tips:
- Tip 1. Check the laundry label
- Tip 2. Put cotton, synthetic laundry, and jeans in the dryer
- Tip 3. Don't put delicate fabrics in the dryer
Tip 1: check the laundry label
Before you start a dryer cycle, check the laundry label on the inside of your clothing. You'll find various symbols. These indicate if your laundry can go in the dryer and how to dry it best. A square with a circle and a cross means the laundry can't go in the dryer. Gently dry it on a laundry rack. A square with a circle and a single dot means you can dry it at a low temperature. If you see 2 dots, you can dry it at a regular temperature.
Tip 2: put cotton, synthetic fabric, and jeans in the dryer
Can this go in the dryer? To be sure, check the laundry label first. These types generally can go in the dryer:
- Cotton: bedding, towels, and cotton clothing
- Synthetics: sports clothing and synthetic shirts
- Jeans: denim clothes, but keep in mind you dry at a low temperature
Note: it's best to dry different fabrics separately.
Tip 3: don't put delicate laundry in the dryer
What can't go in the dryer? Everything with the symbol of a dryer and a cross. If you can't find the laundry label, dry these types of delicate laundry on a laundry rack:
- Delicate fabric: wool and silk
- Swimwear: swimming trunks, bathing suits, and bikinis
- Bras
- Panties
- Clothing with sequin, beads, or studs
- Rubber mats or shoes with a rubber sole
