Get started with your hair dryer
It's not difficult to blow dry your hair, but there are a few things to to keep in mind to prevent hair damage. We'll explain it in 4 steps.
- Step 1. prepare your hair.
- Step 2. blow dry your hair.
- Step 3. style your hair with a nozzle.
Step 1: prepare your hair
First, make your wet hair towel dry. Your hair is still wet, but it's not dripping anymore. Before you dry and style your hair with the hair dryer, it's important to protect your hair from the hot air. You can do this with a heat protector. There are many different heat protectors, like a spray or serum. Spread the heat protector over your hair with your hands or carefully with a special brush or comb for wet hair.
Step 2: blow dry your hair
Straight hair
You can quickly dry wet hair with the hot air of a hair dryer. You use no or the largest nozzle, so the airflow is as large as possible. Adjust the temperature to your hair type. Rather go for a temperature that's too low than too high to prevent hair damage due to the heat. Start blow drying your hair close to the roots. Keep moving the hair dryer and slowly work towards the tips. Keep the hair dryer at at least 15cm distance of your hair.
Tip: blow dry your hair upside down for more volume.
Curly hair
You can dry and style your curls with a diffuser. A diffuser is a wide attachment with pins for on your hair dryer. Thanks to the wide shape, the diffuser spreads the air evenly and the pins keep your curls in place. That way, they'll dry in a nice shape and you don't blow them apart. You can tilt your head sideways or upside down and place your curls in the diffuser. You then move the hair dryer closer to your scalp, so you also reach the roots.
Step 3: straighten your hair with a nozzle
Section your hair
Divide your hair into at least 2 sections before you start styling your hair with the hair dryer. To do this, place your index fingers on your temples and slowly pull them back in a straight line. The hair you've pulled back will be the top section, the rest forms the bottom section. Tie the 2 sections with a hair tie or clip. The thicker your hair, the more sections you should create.
Style hair
You can blow dry your hair piece by piece with a round brush and slim nozzle that centers the airflow. Keep the brush horizontally and place a strand on top. Start as close to the roots as possible. Hold the nozzle against the brush and move the brush along with the hair dryer towards the tips of the strand. For a light wave, you can rotate the brush around its axis once you reach the tip of your hair. If you want more volume, you can brush the strands upwards while you use the hair dryer.
