How do you choose a curling brush?

With a curling brush, you can easily create volume and waves in your hair. Such a brush can also be called a hair dryer brush or curling hair dryer. You can also use it to straighten your hair and add a nice gloss. After reading this article, you'll know exactly what to keep in mind when purchasing a curling brush. Do you prefer to have full on curls? A curling iron is more suitable for you.

Choose curling brush

Curling brush attachments

With a curling brush, you can add volume to your hair. Before you purchase a curling brush, it's important to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Which diameter is suitable for your desired result?
  • Do you want a curling brush with rotating brush?
  • Which hairstyle do you want to create with the brush?
  • Do you want to protect your hair extra well?

Which diameter is suitable for your desired result?

20-25mm diameter curling brush

20 to 25mm

This diameter is suitable for all hair lengths. If you have short hair that reaches just below your ears, you can create volume with this brush. You can also curl your hair ends inwards or outwards, for example. If your hair fits around the brush completely, you can also create waves. The longer your hair, the easier it is to create clearly visible waves and loose curls.

25-40mm diameter curling brush

25 to 40mm

You can create volume in short hair that reaches just below your ears. Hair of this length often doesn't fit around the brush completely, so you can't create waves or loose curls. Do you have half-long or long hair, you can create volume and waves in your hair. The same applies here, the longer your hair, the easier it is to create loose curls.

40mm and larger

40mm and larger

If you want to create waves and curls with this brush, it's easiest in long hair that reaches to below your shoulders. We don't recommend this diameter for short hair that reaches just below your ears. It would be quite difficult to create waves and volume, because your hair wouldn't fit around the brush completely. If you want to straighten your hair quickly, this diameter is suitable for any hair length.

Do you want a curling brush with rotating brush?

Rotating curling brush

The advantage of a rotating brush is that you don't have to spin your hair around the brush yourself. The brush does this for you. You can often change the rotation direction yourself, so you can create a symmetrical result. If you don't want the brush to rotate, you can switch off this function. It takes some practice to style your hair with a rotating brush. The diameter is relatively large too, which makes the brushes less suitable for short to half-long hair.

Which hairstyle do you want to create with the brush?

Curling brush attachments

For a hairstyle with volume and waves, you can use the round brush of the curling brush. Some curling brushes have multiple attachments, all of which are suitable for different hairstyles. If you want to straighten your hair, choose a curling brush with a straightener or flat brush. For extra volume, choose a volume attachment that reaches all the way to the roots thanks to its long bristles. For small curls, a curling brush isn't the most suitable one to use. Do you still want to create curls with the brush? Choose a curling iron attachment.

Do you want to protect your hair extra well?

Ceramic technology curling brush

If you want to protect your hair extra well from the heat of the curling brush, choose a brush with ceramic technology. Thanks to this technology, the curling brush spreads the heat evenly over your hair. As a result, your hair doesn't get too hot in one spot. If you want a non-static and frizz-free result, choose a curling brush with ionic technology. For fine and damaged hair, we recommend a brush with a minimum temperature of 180°C or lower.
