First impression of the Sennheiser Momentum 3.0 Wireless
When you take the Sennheiser Momentum 3.0 Wireless out of the box, you feel the sturdiness right away. The headphones are made of solid materials and has an industrial look with the recognizable Sennheiser touch. I like the design, because it looks sleek and different than most other headphones on the market. On the ear cup, there are 5 physical buttons for noise canceling, the sound, and to turn on the voice assistant of your phone.
Allround sound
In the end, good sound quality is important when you get headphones. The Sennheiser headphones have good quality. I would describe it as an allround sound, the music sounds very clear and spacious, the high tones sound good, and the bass is deep. But the headphones aren't distinctive for any of these aspects. For example, the bass is deep, but lacks power. As a result, dance music doesn't sound as impressive as hip-hop, which is a genre that does come to justice with these headphones.
Noise canceling doesn't mute everything
Noise canceling is becoming more and more popular. The Sennheiser Momentum 3.0 Wireless also have this popular function, but isn't as impressive to me as the sound. Especially voices aren't muted properly by the headphones. You can't hear what people are saying exactly, but you can still hear people talking through your music. The noise canceling is better when I'm on public transport, but I expected more for this price.
No detailed app
To adjust the sound and noise canceling of the headphones, the Sennheiser has an app for both Android and iOS devices. Unfortunately, the app isn't very detailed, which is a shame. There's a simple equalizer that doesn't improve the sound, despite your own preferences. In addition, you can choose from 3 noise canceling modes: max, anti wind, and anti pressure. The first option is self-explanatory, the last 2 are interesting options. For example, the anti wind option ensures you're bothered less by wind when you're on the bike. The anti pressure option ensures less pressure on your ears.
Smart functions
Headphones are getting smarter and get more and more useful functions. For example, the new model by Sennheiser has multipoint pairing, which means you can connect the headphones to 2 devices at the same time. That way, you can easily switch between the music on your phone to a YouTube video on your laptop. This works perfectly and saves me a lot of time when I want to switch between 2 devices. Another function is one that automatically pauses the music when I take off the headphones. And to be honest, I've never had headphones where this works as easily as it does. So definitely a good addition.
Good wearing comfort
With headphones, you want to be able to listen to music as long as possible without your ear cups or headband starting to irritate. The Sennheiser Momentum 3.0 Wireless is tight on your head and around your ears, but doesn't cause irritation. Even after long listening sessions, I didn't experience any inconvenience. The headband and ear cups are made of soft leather, and you feel this.
Conclusion
I tested multiple headphones from this price range and I can honestly say, Sennheiser didn't lose the competition. Is it gonna be a tough battle? Definitely. Especially in terms of noise canceling, the headphones didn't impress me much. But this doesn't take away the fact that the allround sound is a joy to listen to, the headphones are still comfortable after longer listening sessions, and the smart functions work flawlessly.
