Expert review Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic
New: Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra
On 10 July 2024, Samsung launched the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch4 and 4 Classic are no longer available. These 7th generation smartwatches are faster and have more functions than the Watch4 models. Curious to know more?
First impression of the Samsung Galaxy Watch4
When I unpack the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic, the large screen of the watch case stands out right away. After I've connected it to my smartphone, I can see right away that the screen is bright. It's a bit large for my wrist, but it doesn't feel heavy. I tested the 42mm version, and I have a 14cm wrist circumference. In the package, there's a cable that you have to connect to the right adapter yourself. The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic comes in 2 sizes, 42mm or 46mm in black or silver.
Easy to use
It's very important to me that my smartwatch is easy to control, because I want to use it all day. Luckily, I notice right away that that's the case for the Galaxy Watch 4. With the rotating bezel around the watch case, I can scroll through my apps. I can smoothly swipe in all directions on the touchscreen as well. The touchscreen also allows me to quickly respond to a WhatsApp message. For the more difficult questions, I use the voice assistant with the top button. I do this in English, because Dutch isn't available yet.
Monitor your health
With the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, I get an overview of my health with the touch of a button. You can do this via the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis function, which is a body analysis function. This function performs a body analysis that measures my fat percentage, muscle mass, BMI, and body water. This allows me to check if I'm healthy. I can also track my water and calorie intake. I can measure my blood pressure, heart rate, and stress level. At night, I can track my sleep and check if I've had a good night's rest in the morning. So I have all the functions to help me maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Accurately track your sports performance
It's important to move once in a while to stay healthy. Luckily, the Watch4 has all kinds of sports on the watch. Including my favorite, yoga. As a result, I can accurately measure my sports performance per type of sports. I can measure how many calories I burn, for example. I can also choose from different types of workouts and goals. There's a program to work towards a 5km run for novice runners.
Personalize your smartwatch with apps
Unlike its Watch3 predecessor, the Watch4 runs on Wear OS instead of Tizen. As a result, I can also add apps to the smartwatch that I find important. I now have Spotify on my watch, for example. I can add quite some apps on the watch thanks to the 16GB storage capacity. If I adjust the watch case and buy a different strap, I can personalize the Watch4 even more.
Compatibility with your smartphone
The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 works best if you connect it to your Samsung smartphone. If you do, you can use the blood pressure and ECG monitor without any problems. Unfortunately, these functions don't work with other Android smartphones. You can't connect this Watch4 to an iPhone. Older smartwatches do work with iOS, but not all functions are available.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic is a high-end watch that monitors my health well. With the touch of a button, I get an overview of my health. I have insight into my health thanks to the many functions, such as measuring my stress level or tracking my sleep. In addition, the many sports and workouts on the Watch4 ensure that it's a good smartwatch to work out with. I also like that I can add my own apps to the smartwatch, because I don't grab my smartphone as often as a result.
