The first impression of the Philips Connected AC4236/10
The first thing I noticed is the size of the box. It's considerably narrower than I'm used to for air purifiers. And the air purifier is indeed narrow. The round design ensures that the air purifier is a lot more compact than its predecessors. In addition, the appearance has improved a lot. Where an air purifier usually looks like a white cabinet, this air purifier is more like a decorative pillar.
Connect with Air Matters app
It was very easy to connect the air purifier. After you've removed the plastic from the air purifier and filter, it's ready to use. As soon as you plug it in the socket, the WiFi logo starts to flash and you can easily connect the air purifier to the WiFi network via the Air Matters app. You can see the current air quality in the house and easily operate the air purifier from the couch.
The sound in automatic mode
I received a tip from Philips via the app to set the air purifier to automatic mode. The air quality in my home was very bad. Not surprising, since I live next to the highway. The fan speed changes continuously in automatic mode, so the volume of the sound changes. I didn't find it very disturbing at the lowest settings, but I had to increase the volume of the TV by 10 sometimes as soon as the air purifier started working harder.
Less dust and bad odors
With 2 cats in the house and the highway around the corner, it easily gets dusty and sometimes a bad smell develops. With the air purifier in the house, this was considerably less. Before, a layer of dust appeared after 2 days, but it now took at least 5 days. I also smelled the litter box a lot less. The air purifier was about 2 meters away from the litter box and started working harder after the cat had used it.
Conclusion
The air purifier helps remove bad odors and reduce dust in the well. I smelled the litter box less and it took 3 days longer than usual before I had to dust again. Compared to the other air purifiers I tested, this one doesn't look like a big white box. I really like that, because an air purifier is quite prominent in the room. The sound at the lowest setting isn't very disturbing, but as soon as the air purifier starts working harder, you have to turn up the sound of the TV to hear it.
