Expert review of the Logitech G502 HERO

The bestselling mouse is the Logitech G502 HERO. This mouse was upgraded with the best Logitech optical sensor ever. The G502 HERO has more tuning options than a car in Need for Speed, which makes the mouse suitable for professional gamers. Are you considering the G502? I've tested the G502 HERO for you.

Pros and cons

  • You can adjust the optical HERO sensor up to 25,000DPI, and it's extremely accurate.
  • With 11 programmable buttons, you don't have to take the fingers of your left hand off the WASD keys and can react faster than your opponent.
  • Use the software to easily save up to 5 profiles on the mouse so you can connect the mouse and play a game with your settings.
  • The moue is on the narrow side for larger hands.
  • The material that was used for the side grips is smoother than with some other gaming mouses.

From the box

From the box

I feel like a kid in a candy store. I have the box of the Logitech G502 HERO in front of me, ready to unpack and test it. I quickly open the box and smell the new mouse. It doesn't really smell like anything, but I can see the amazing product under the transparent plastic cover. It gives me goosebumps. When I pick up the G502, I see a small hexagonal box. It contains 5 small weights. I'm going to enjoy this.

HERO sensor

Sensor

The heart of the mouse is the optical Logitech sensor. You can set the DPI up to 25,000, which is very useful if you take 1080 trick shots in Call of Duty. It doesn't matter what I set the DPI to, the mouse registers the smallest movement very accurately. I can easily center the cursor on moving subjects. From now on, I'll have to find a new excuse when I miss my targets in a first-person shooter. The wind, maybe?

The buttons

Buttons

The layout of the mouse buttons is practical. I have 3 buttons near my thumb, the left and right buttons, 2 extra buttons near my index finger, and 2 buttons in the center of the mouse. The first of the 2 buttons in the center turns the sleek single-action scroll into an infinite scroll wheel. I have enough buttons on the mouse to keep the finger of my left hand on and around the WASD keys during a game.

The software

Software

With the Logitech software, you can completely customize this mouse. Just like with an Italian tailor-made suit, I can easily perfect the G502 HERO according to my style and game style. I can assign functions to buttons, from a key on the keyboard to a whole macro. I can choose from from 16.8 million colors for the peripheral lighting. I chose the Lightsync RGB option, which adjusts the color to the in-game moments. Very fancy!

Grip

Grip

The grip on the mouse is good, but the rubber side grips could've been more rugged. The finish makes it smoother than that of some other mouses. Once it's warmed up, I definitely have more grip. I have fairly large hands and game with palm grip. The mouse is a bit small for me, it feels like my hand is trying to eat the mouse. The included weights allow me to balance the G502 exactly how I like it, which is a bit heavier.

Conclusion

Are you an avid or professional gamer, do you need more macro buttons than just the 2 thumb buttons, and like to adjust your mouse completely to your own playstyle? The Logitech G502 HERO is the mouse for you. I enjoyed the G502 HERO and the how accurately the mouse registers fast movements. The practical layout of the buttons makes the G502 1 of my favorites.
