Expert review of the DJI FPV
DJI FPV Combo
- The aerodynamic design ensures low air resistance and a high maximum speed of 140km/h.
- The drone has a maximum flight time of 20 minutes, which is long for a racing drone.
- You can see the propellers on the screen, so you can make precise maneuvers.
- The weight of the drone is 795g, so you'll have to complete the mandatory online Drone Pilot Basic course.
First impression of the DJI FPV Combo
In my opinion, the drone looks robust and strong at first sight. It's also heavier than the average drone I've flown with. I'm very curious to this product, especially because of the high speed. In combination with the goggles, it looks professional. The battery is a large part of the drone. I think it uses a lot of energy when I use the top speed. Time to test this.
Maximum speed of 140km/h
This drone is really fast. I didn't measure the maximum speed, but it reaches the other end of the field in no time. I didn't know what to expect of the speed, but I notice that it's very different from the other drones by DJI. I thought that the images would be unclear due to the high speed, but that's not the case at all. In addition, the drone can handle strong winds well. Despite the notification, it continued to fly smoothly.
User-friendly controls and smooth motions
The propellers of this drone are positioned in a specific way, so I can move very smoothly. For example, I can make a sharp turn around a tree or small 8-shaped motions. I don't have much experience with racing drones so far, but you can even make a salto and other spectacular motions in the manual mode. I need to practice a little more for this. Not everyone is allowed to fly this heavy drone of 795g. You'll need the Basic Drone Course for this.
Record videos in 4K resolution
Despite the fact that this drone isn't made for videography, you can still record 4K images with it. This ensures a high image quality and many details. I record at 60 fps, and the videos look smooth. When you choose Full HD, you can record at 120 fps for cinematic videos. This drone hasn't been made for recording videos, which I notice by the fact that the propellers are in the image during recording.
Experience the flight via the goggles
I'm curious to how I'll experience the flight with goggles. When I put it on my head, I feel a little out of balance. That's because the goggles close off your vision completely. You just see the image of the camera, everything else is black. I wear glasses myself, but the goggles go over it and feel comfortable. During the fight, I do feel like I'm watching a screen instead of flying along.
Conclusion
If you're more interested in flying drones than recording, the DJI FPV is definitely a must-have. It's very fast, moves smoothly, and you can view the entire flight through the goggles. There were strong winds while I tested the drone, but it didn't really matter. I have to get used to flying through goggles, because I can't see the drone. That way, I have no idea how far away the drone is.
