First impression of the Acer TravelMate Vero
The packaging of the Acer TravelMate is made from 100% recycled material, and is also fully recyclable. This laptop looks sturdy. The texture in the plastic case has a nice grip. When folding open the screen, the hinges provide a pleasant resistance and the trackpad has an equal amount of back pressure in all places. The letters E and R stand out right away. That's because these are yellow and mirrored. In addition to the laptop, the box contains an adapter, the cord, and also a collapsible laptop stand from recycled cardboard. This is a fun ecological gesture, but I doubt if this is the sustainability that we're looking for.
Green design
30 to 50% of the top, bottom, screen bezel, and keys are made from recycled materials. The keys on the keyboard are stable and the presence of a numeric keypad is nice, even though the keys are quite small. The fingerprint sensor is well-hidden in the trackpad and reacts fast. I put my finger on the fingerprint sensor, and the laptop wakes up from sleep mode right away. When I put my hands on the laptop to type, part of my hand slides over the trackpad. Because of this, my cursor makes unexpected movements.
Easily replaceable
A broken laptop is easy to replace, but that's not very environmentally-friendly. That's why the decision was made to make it extra easy to replace defective parts of this laptop. Thanks to the standard screws, you can unscrew the bottom with a regular cross-head screwdriver. The separate parts are easy to detach. This way, you can easily expand the RAM or replace the battery.
Good performances
I'm curious about the performance of this laptop. In the VeroSense app, I select the optimization mode for the battery. I choose Eco+, the option that focuses on maximum battery efficiency and minimal performance. There are 2 Google Chrome tabs open that both show an 8K YouTube video at the same time, I'm listening to Spotify via the web player, and am typing in this document in Google Docs. To my surprise, the videos continue to play without slowdowns. The fan does turn on every once in a while to cool.
Conclusion
The Acer TravelMate Vero TMV15-51 is a laptop that presents itself as 'green'. Acer has achieved this. Special software, recycled packaging and case, and parts that are easily replaceable contribute to this. Performance-wise, this laptop isn't powerhouse, but it does everything you can expect from a laptop in this price range.
