How do you descale your Nespresso?
Get started with descaling
We'll explain how to easily descale your Nespresso Original in 4 steps. These are the steps we'll go through:
Step 1. Take old capsules out of the coffee machine. Step 2. Fill the water tank with the descaler and water. Step 3. Go through the descaling process. Step . Rinse the machine with water.
You need:
- A descaler
- A 1L container
Descale your Nespresso machine every 6 months
Some Nespresso machines notify you when it's time to descale it, others don't. If yours doesn't, make sure to descale the coffee machine every 6 months. You should also descale your Nespresso machine when the coffee comes out lukewarm, too slowly, or when the coffee machine doesn't detect the capsule. You need a descaler that's suitable for a Nespresso machine. Use the Nespresso descaler, a descaler from the brand of your Krups, Magimix, De'Longhi, or other coffee machine, or use a universal descaler.
Step 1: take the old capsules out of the machine
Step 2: fill the water tank with a descaler and water
- Fill the water tank with the descaler.
- Add 0.5L of water.
Step 3: go through the descaling process
- Then, press and hold the espresso and lungo buttons for 3 seconds.
- Both buttons will start to flash. Press the lungo button to start the process.
- The machine will rinse until the water tank is empty.
- When it stops descaling, remove the container and empty it.
- Remove the water tank from the machine, rinse it thoroughly, and fill it with water up to the 'Max' mark.
Step 4: rinse the machine
- Put the container back under the coffee outlet.
- Press the lungo button to rinse the machine with water.
- The machine will rinse until the water tank is empty.
- When it stops rinsing, remove the container and empty it in the sink.
- Take the water tank out of the machine and rinse it thoroughly.
- Press and hold the lungo and espresso buttons for 3 seconds to leave the menu..
- You've successfully descaled your Nespresso machine.
