Samsung T9 Portable
The Samsung T9 Portable is available in 3 versions that differ in storage space. You can choose between 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Do you occasionally store photos, videos, and text files? In that case, 1TB will be enough. You'll need more if you want to store large files on the SSD. All 3 of the T9 SSDs are black.
Samsung T7 Shield
Just like with the T9 Portable, you can choose between 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB with the Samsung T7 Shield. The difference is the fact that the T7 Shield is available in various colors, black, blue, and beige. We also sell duo packs of the T7 Shield. This is useful if you need a couple of them.
Samsung T7 Portable
If you choose the T7 Portable, you'll have the most options. You can choose between 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The T7 Portable is available in various colors, gray, blue, and red. The T7 Portable is unique because of the Touch version. This model has a fingerprint sensor that you can use to safely unlock the SSD. Do you need more than 2TB of storage space? Choose the T7 Shield or T9 Portable
Speed
T9 Portable: extremely fast
The T9 Portable is an extremely fast external SSD. With read and write speeds of 2000MB/s and 1950MB/s, it's a lot faster than the average SSD. It's even almost twice as fast as the T7 SSDs. Choose the fast T9 if you transfer many large files, like 4K and 8K images. This allows you to transfer 50GB of 4K video material within half a minute.
T7 Shield and T7 Portable: average speed
The T7 Shield and T7 Portable SSDs both have read and write speeds of 1050MB/s and 1000MB/s. This means they don't reach the high speeds of the T9, but they're still almost twice as fast as the T5 SSD. The T7 drives are fast enough for average use.
Resistance
T9 Portable: good protection
The T9 Portable has a sturdy casing that offers protection for impact and dust. It can also handle falls from up to 3m high. This means that nothing will happen if you accidentally drop it. It's important that your SSD can handle impact and falls, so your data won't get damaged.
T7 Shield: best protection
The T7 Shield is the sturdiest external SSD by Samsung. The SSD has a silicone cover, which offers protection against external influences. Thanks to this, the T7 Shield has an IP65 certificate. This means that it's protected against dust and splashes of water. It can also handle falls up to 3m and impact, just like the T9.
T7 Portable: average protection
The T7 Portable is the least sturdy one of the 3. Your data isn't protected against water and falls from up to greater heights. The T7 Portable can take impact and falls from lower heights up to 2m. That's why the T7 Portable is less suitable for longer trips outdoors and more suitable for use on your desk or next to your console, for example
Connectors
All external SSDs by Samsung have a USB-C port. You can connect it to your appliances via one of the included cables. Both T7 SSDs and the T9 SSD include a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable. So it doesn't matter whether your appliance has a USB-C or USB-A port. You can connect the SSDs to Windows, macOS, and Android appliances and to gaming consoles and the iPhone 15. You can even connect the T9 to 12K cameras.
Conclusion
You should choose the T9 Portable if speed is important to you. For example, if you work with many large files. The T7 Portable is the best choice for you if you're looking for an average external SSD. This SSD doesn't reach high speeds, but is fast enough for regular amounts of files. The T7 Shield is the sturdier version of the T7 Portable. You should choose this one if you want your SSD to be protected against water, falls, and dust.
