Design
Fitbit Charge 5: wider, more stylish activity tracker
The shape of the Fitbit Charge 5 is more similar to the shape of the Fitbit Luxe than that of the Fitbit Sense. That's because it's an actual activity tracker, which are usually slim and have a rectangular shape. The Charge 5 is the first of the Charge product series with a more luxurious appearance. That's why it compares to the Fitbit Sense and the Luxe. The Charge 5 is also the first Charge with a color screen. This activity tracker is available in 3 colors: Lunar White/Soft Gold, Black/Graphite, and Steel Blue/Platinum.
Fitbit Sense: rectangular, stylish smartwatch
The Fitbit Sense is a smartwatch, which is why it has a different shape from the Charge and the Luxe. The rectangular smartwatch has a stylish stainless steel casing that gives it a luxurious look, and the straps and watch case fit together seamlessly. The Fitbit Sense is available in 3 colors: Lunar White/Soft Gold, Carbon/Graphite, and Sage Grey/Silver.
Fitbit Luxe: slim, stylish activity tracker
The name says it all: the Fitbit Luxe is a luxurious activity tracker. It's slimmer and smaller than the Fitbit Charge 5 and has the same luxurious appearance as the Fitbit Sense. There are different straps available, so you can adjust the activity tracker to your taste. The Fitbit Luxe is available in 3 colors: Soft Gold/Lunar White, Graphite/Black, and Orchid/Platinum.
Battery life
Fitbit Charge 5:up to 7-day battery life
Of the 3 models, the Fitbit Charge has the longest batter life. This activity tracker lasts up to 7 days before you have to recharge it. The battery life does depend on how intensively you use the activity tracker.
Fitbit Sense: up to 6-day battery life
The Fitbit Sense comes in second in terms of battery life. This smartwatch lasts up to 6 days on a full battery. The battery life does depend on your usage.
Fitbit Luxe: up to 5-day battery life
The Fitbit Luxe has the shortest battery life of these 3 models. You'll have to charge this activity tracker after 5 days. That's because this slim tracker doesn't have space for large battery. In addition, the color screen uses a lot more energy than a black and white screen like that of the Inspire 2.
Health functions
Fitbit Charge 5: heart rate recovery, EDA sensor, ECG
With the Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit introduces a new health function for their smartwatches. The Daily Readiness Score measures how well your body recovers from your workouts, which is also known as the heart rate recovery. This allows you to see whether you're ready for the next workout or should rest a bit longer. This heart rate recovery function is available via Fitbit Premium. And just like the Sense, the Charge 5 has an ECG heart rate monitor for electrocardiograms and an EDA sensor. With this, the tracker measures your stress management score.
Fitbit Sense: heart rate recovery, EDA sensor, ECG
In terms of health functions, the Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Charge 5 are the same. In addition to the heart rate recovery, the Sense also has an EDA sensor that measures your stress management. Did you get a low stress management score? You'll get breathing exercises to keep your stress under control. The ECG heart rate monitor on the Sense allows you to make electrocardiograms from your wrist. The cardiograms measure your heart rhythm and can detect atrial fibrillation. Keep in mind that the electrocardiograms you make with the Fitbit Sense or Charge 5 aren't as accurate as they are in the hospital.
Fitbit Luxe: heart rate recovery, skin temperature measurement
The heart rate recovery function is now available on the Fitbit Luxe as well. Though this activity tracker doesn't have extensive health functions like the EDA sensor or an ECG heart rate monitor, it does measure skin temperature, steps, distance, and heart rate. You can also keep on the Luxe at night, as this tracker measures your heart rate while you sleep to calculate a sleep score. This gives you insight into your deep and light sleep. And with Fitbit Premium, you can even check if you snore. You'll easily find all your health statistics in the Fitbit app.
Smart functions
Fitbit Charge 5: built-in GPS, Fitbit Pay, smartphone notifications
Thanks to the built-in GPS sensor in the Charge 5, you can leave your phone at home when you go for a run. That's because the activity tracker saves your route itself. You can also make contactless payments with this activity tracker thanks to Fitbit Pay. You simply hold the Charge 5 over the card reader and you've completed your purchase. You don't have to worry when you forget your card at home as a result. In addition, you can also view your smartphone notifications on this tracker.
Fitbit Sense: voice assistant, built-in GPS, Spotify app
In addition to the GPS, Fitbit Pay, and smartphone notifications, the Fitbit Sense also has a voice assistant. You can use Google Assistant or Alexa for questions about the weather, your next appointment, or to turn alarms on and off. You can also use Spotify on the Fit, so you can easily listen to your favorite playlists from your wrist. And you can read all your smartphone notifications and accept or decline incoming calls on the Sense as well.
Fitbit Luxe: smartphone notifications
More than anything, the Fitbit Luxe is an activity tracker, which is why it has limited smart functions. You do receive smartphone notifications on the Fitbit Luxe and can see incoming calls, but it's not possible to answer calls on this tracker. Fitbit Pay and Spotify aren't available on the Luxe either.
