Screen
Apple Watch Series 6: extra bright Always On
The screen of the Apple Watch Series 6 is just as large as the screen of the Apple Watch SE. It's brighter though. That way, you can still easily read your messages when the sunlight hits the watch. The Series 6 has an Always On display, so you can always see the time. If you don't look at your Apple Watch, the screen dims. It doesn't go completely black, like the screen of the Apple Watch SE and Series 3.
Apple Watch SE: 30% larger screen than the Series 3
The screen of the Apple Watch SE is 30% larger than that of the Apple Watch Series 3. The black bezel is thinner and follows the shape of the watch case. The Apple Watch SE doesn't have an Always On display. That means the screen goes completely black when you don't look at it, so you can't sneak a peek at the time.
Apple Watch Series 3: OLED Retina display
The Apple Watch Series 3 has the same OLED screen as the Apple Watch SE, but the screen is smaller and more angular than the screen of the SE. The Apple Watch Series 3 doesn't have an Always On display either. You have to turn your wrist or move the watch upwards to activate the screen.
Heart rate monitor and oxygen meter, fall detection
Apple Watch Series 6: ECG, saturation monitor, and fall detection
When it comes to meters and monitors, the Apple Watch Series 6 comes out on top. With this watch, you can measure the oxygen level of your blood. Based on this value, the Series 6 gives you an indication of your fitness. In addition to the optical heart rate monitor, the Series 6 also has an ECG function. This makes cardiograms that can detect atrial defibrillation or cardiac arrhythmia. The Apple Watch Series 6 also has fall detection.
Apple Watch SE: fall detection and optical heart rate sensor
The Apple Watch SE doesn't have the ECG heart rate monitor or saturation monitor that the Apple Watch Series 6 has. The watch does have an optical heart rate sensor that continuously measures your heart rate. For example, when you exercise or sleep. Like the Series 6, the Apple Watch SE has fall detection. If the watch detects a fall and I don't respond in time, it calls emergency services for me. It also notifies my most important contacts with a message that includes my location. That way, I'm safe wherever I am.
Apple Watch Series 3: optical heart rate sensor
When it comes to sensors and functions, the Apple Watch Series 3 is most limited in its options out of the 3 models. The watch doesn't have a saturation monitor, ECG function, or fall detection. It does have an optical heart rate sensor that continuously measures your heart rate. That way, you know if you're exercising in the right heart rate zone and if you got enough rest while you were sleeping.
Processor and Always On altimeter
Apple Watch Series 6: processor, Always On altimeter
Out of the 3 models, the Apple Watch Series 6 is the fastest. That's because it has an S6 processor. This processor is up to 20% faster than the Apple Watch SE processor. Thanks to this processor, apps boot faster and your dynamic watch faces don't stutter. The Apple Watch Series 6 has an Always On altimeter. With it, you can see exactly how high or low you are during your hike through the mountains.
Apple Watch SE: S5 processor, Always On altimeter
The Apple Watch SE has an S5 processor. It's up to 2 times faster than the processor of the Apple Watch Series 3, but not as fast as the Apple Watch Series 6 processor. The Apple Watch SE also has an Always On altimeter.
Apple Watch Series 3: S3 processor, regular altimeter
The Apple Watch Series 3 has an S3 processor, the slowest of the 3. Apps don't boot as quickly and you can't switch between apps as smoothly. This model Apple Watch has a regular altimeter. It does measure how high you're climbing, but it's not displayed live on your watch face.
Conclusion
The Apple Watch Series 6 is the most advanced watch from Apple so far. It has a bright Always On display, so you can always see the time. It also has useful functions like a saturation monitor and ECG. The Apple Watch SE lacks functions like the Always On display and the ECG heart rate monitor, but it does have fall protection. Do you just want to track your daily activities and read messages on your wrist? In that case, the Series 3 is fine for you.
