5 tips to get the most out of your cool mist humidifier

You of course want to get started with your cool mist humidifier right away, but how do you actually use the humidifier? And how do you clean it? In this article, we'll give you 5 tips to get the most out of your cool mist humidifier.

Get started with your cool mist humidifier

Philips humidifier

Cool mist humidifiers flow air across a humidification filter to humidify the air. How do you get the most out of your humidifier? We'll give you some tips.

Tip 1:. Keep enough distance from electrical appliances Tip 2. Give your humidifier some time Tip 3. Close as many windows and doors as possible Tip 4. Keep the water tank clean Tip 5. Replace the filters

Tip 1: keep enough distance from electrical appliances.

Free around the humidifier

Before turning on your humidifier, it's important you place it on a good spot. The surface needs to be level and stable and it's not wise to place the humidifier next to the TV or computer. Electrical appliances could break if they get wet. Do you have a wood floor or raw wood furniture in your home? In that case, make sure the humidifier isn't always at the same place. This way, you prevent the wood furniture from absorbing too much moisture.

Tip 2: give the humidifier some time

Measure humidity hygrometer

The effect of the humidifier isn't always instantly noticeable. Because it depends on how dry the air in your home is and what furniture is in the room. If you have a lot of raw wood furniture, for example, it'll take longer for the humidity to increase. This is because the wood furniture absorbs moisture, so it doesn't crack as a result of very dry air. This means you'll have to refill the humidifier daily the first week.

Tip 3: close as many windows and doors as possible

If you ventilate too much, a lot of (dry) air can get into the room. The humidifier can't keep up because of this. If you still want to ventilate, it's better to open a single window or door instead of two opposing windows and doors.

Tip 4: keep the water tank clean

Clean humidifier

If you leave the water in the tank for too long, bacteria and mold formation can occur. To prevent this, it's important to keep the water tank clean. You can do this by rinsing the water tank every time you clean it. Can't take out the water tank? In that case, regularly wipe the tank with a damp cloth. It's also important you descale the water tank every two weeks. Find out how to do this in the manual of your device.

Tip 5: replace the filters

Replace filter

Cool mist humidifiers use a humidification filter to humidify the air. How often you need to replace this filter depends on the model. If they can be cleaned, the filters need to be replaced after 6 months. This means you need to replace the filter at least once per year. You can't clean the humidification filters of Stadler Form. So you need to replace these filters every 2 to 3 months. Check the manual of your humidifier to find out what kind of humidification filter is in your humidifier.
