Pros and cons

According to our router expert

  • Thanks to WiFi 7, you can reach higher speeds and you're less bothered by interference from the neighbors.
  • With a 5764Mbps speed on the 5GHz band, this router is faster than similar routers.
  • This system has 10Gbps network connectors, so you can also use these for the fastest internet connections.
  • Depending on the size of your house, this router offers coverage on 1 or 2 floors.
  • To take advantage of all the improvements of WiFi 7, you need suitable devices.

Description

The ASUS RT-BE88U router allows you to game without any lags. You can reach a speed of up to 7200Mbps, divided over the 2.4 and 5GHz band. The router has WiFi 7, so you're less bothered by interference of other devices. This means you can easily connect multiple consoles, streams like Netflix, and Smart Home devices. To increase the range, connect multiple routers to each other. Multi-Link operation optimally divides the network traffic, so there's no 'traffic jam' at peak consumption. For the highest speeds, you can connect your devices wired to one of the 6 Ethernet ports.

Great product

  • Good Wi-Fi coverage
  • Eight LAN ports
  • Extensive software

With our house from the sixties, a wired backbone is not an option. That is why I opted for a strong router in the middle of the house. With Wi-Fi 7 I can use the latest technology. Most routers with 6GHz are not as strong as this one on 5GHz. Because it will take a while before 6GHz is the standard, I opted for a lot of speed on the 5GHz band and to leave out 6GHz. This is not only fast, but also has 8 LAN ports. The software is very extensive, but still simple. All in all a great product.

This router reaches 4 Gbit/sec(+?) with PPPoE!

  • VLAN support
  • 4 GB/sec+ PPPoE
  • 10Gb SFP+ and 10Gb WAN
  • No HTTPS

Gets my full 4 GB/sec via PPPoE, something I had not encountered before except with the standard box. I think it wants to be even faster, 1 specific speed site owned by the well-known red streaming service does not seem to be really pinched and sometimes gets 6-8 gbit. With 10 gbit you actually want to use fiber optic where possible, just because of the power consumption of 10 GbE. The XGS-PON ONT is connected to the WAN port and the switch is connected to the router via a glass module. Seems quite efficient compared to what I had (mini PC as router). Both the WAN port and the SFP+ port can therefore be used simultaneously. Furthermore, you have to set the following at the large green provider of, among other things, fiber optic internet: at 802.1Q VLAN ID 6 and then IPv6 on Native and Interface PPP, Stateless and everything else there on Enable. For TV, you have a button IPTV with an ISP Profile at LAN. There is a message here "Due to hardware limitation, IGMP proxy cannot co-exist with IPTV function." I don't watch TV.

Wire a top router

  • 2x 10gbe port options
  • 4x 2.5gbe ports
  • Wifi 6 320mhz

Chosen due to affordable internal upgrade with wired 2.5 Gbe network and expansion to 10 Gbe in the future.
